My tablet shortlist at the moment is
1. Samsung Galaxy 10.1 32GB - currently not on sale due to Apples court case in Germany.
2. Apples iPad 32GB no usb or HDMI points
3. Asus Transformer - not sure about the docking station but has mini SD card and HDMI point.
4. Toshiba Thrive - not on sale in the UK yet but spec. looks very good.

Any comments on any of the above please as I'm a newbie to tablets!!
Could I ask anyone who uses an iPad please..... if you transfer films onto the iPad what format are they and is there a connection which will allow you to connect the iPad to a tv to show films.
Any other comments greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dave

Hi Jim - connection to the internet and watching films while on holiday, showing my images to friends and family and playing a few games (not really into the latter)

Any of the above should do that fine really. The samsung is also back on sale after it was ruled that the german court didn't have jurisdiction elsewhere.

Jim - are you sure about Samsung......I have been into PC World and Currys today and they only have the 16GB version on sale not the 32GB......any ideas where the 32GB Galaxy is on sale would be really helpful
PS I though the counter claim by Samsung was not to be heard for at least another 4 weeks.
Thanks
Dave

The judge decided that he wasn't sure if he had the power to ban EU wide or just Germany. So changed it to Germany only and referred it to the EU for clarification.

The news is on engadget. It may not have filtered down to retail yet though.

Thanks Alistair and Jim ....just read the report on Reuters, so which retailer, if any, has the 32Gb version available

Currys and PC World are apparently due to get it in the next week or two, but how long it takes to distribute to stores is a different matter, I'd expect to only see it in the major stores to begin with!

Thanks Chris, will keep a watching brief on places like John Lewis
Thanks for the update
Dave

Interesting, last time I looked on their website at the 32gb and 64gb models they had a date when they were due in, but that seems to have disappeared.

The big problem with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is that it doesn't have a USB port (according to TechRadar) so I'm wondering how you'd get photos onto it to show to the relatives. Other than uploading them to Flickr/Photobucket/500px/Google+/wherever...

Edit:Strike that. On page 1 they say:
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 doesn't have a USB port,
then on page 2 they say:
On the bottom, there's just a 30-pin connector for the USB cable.

Strange...

I have an Ipad and I love it. You might be able to pick a refurbished 1st generation one quite cheaply.

Argos are listing a pre-order before 31st August for del on the 1st Sept for the 32gb

i just picked up an ipad2 32gb wi-fi.

it is an extremely impressive device. if you dont want the hassle of converting existing videos there is an app called "AVPlayerHD" that will play pretty much anything that is thrown at it, it will also transfer files from a network source via wi-fi.
