Taking photos from camera to laptop.

I brought a panasonic dmc-tz3 last week - it didn't come with a usb cable to connect it to the laptop. However I have a cable that came with another camera that worked on my other 2 cameras. I tried to download some pictures last night but the computer did not pick up the camera - any ideas?Do you think that a cable specifically for the tz3 would work if I brought one?

You may find that a card reader is cheaper, easier to get hold of and quicker too.

a usb cable is a usb cable is a usb cable providing it has the right connector for the camera.

have you installed the software for the camera before plugging it in?
