Dear Richard Timothy Ellis,

If any of your friends or family are with Tiscali for their broadband, they're in for a surprise early next year. Tiscali's new owners TalkTalk are increasing the price for Tiscali broadband by £5 a month for customers who don't take a TalkTalk phone line.

Here at Plusnet we think that's pretty Scrooge-like, so we've put together a special deal for you and your friends and you can have a merrier Christmas on us. Recommend us and we'll send you £25 in John Lewis vouchers for each Tiscali customer who signs-up and migrates to Plusnet on your recommendation*. Tell your friends to enter our special code 'tiscali' when they register via this page and they'll get their first 3 months free too:

http://www.plus.net/latest_offers

Make sure they also keep a note of your Plusnet username, as we'll ask for this once they're up and running so we can get your vouchers to you.

Of course you'll still get our standard referral discount off your monthly bill for everyone who signs up too. There's no limit to the number of people you can recommend, or the number of vouchers you can get. In fact, if you recommend enough people we'll start paying you each month!

Kind regards,

Anthony Vollmer
CEO Plusnet

PS – Make sure you tell your friends ASAP, as this limited time offer ends 31st January 2010.

Any tiscalli or talk talk users can you let me know if this is true - thanks

I'm with Tiscali and don't have a TalkTalk phone line, haven't had any word from TalkTalk telling me the price will go up if I don't take their phoneline.

However they are unlikely to tell customers like me too far in advance otherwise we'd all look for better deals ASAP and leave even sooner.

it just seems odd that another ISP is telling it's customers to talk to talk talk friends etc... hence me asking around - but if it's true then at least people know

Wouldnt be the first time one comapny has told porkies to get others custom, i remember when my elec provider changed name last time, a competor tried to convince me my current supplier was going bust hence the name change/ change of ownership etc and that bills would go thought the roof. Complete lies as the name change had been on the card for about 3 years before, plus its the company i work for

I would still recommend plus.net to any one there a brill isp

We left Tiscali for PlusNet 2 years ago and not looked back since. It's great to be able to speak to someone in the UK when there is a problem, and their connections are so much more reliable. They were also pretty swift sorting out our house move.

and if you know it you can ring the sheffield number instead of the 0845 number to which is a lot cheaper

well feel free to anyone who wants to join plus.net - would recommend them if also you could use our username as recommend and we both benefit :)

We switched to talk talk for our phone service earlier this year.
Yesterday we reported a fault with our line, after doing several basic tests the guy escalated it to 2 line support.
Later in the day he called me back to say that BT had identifed a fault as the exchange and it should be fixed within 24 hours.
Last night at 9pm a BT engineer called us to say it had been fixed and this morning, I received a sms from talk talk saying the line had been fixed.

I have to say, when I first called them, I was connected within 2 mins, the Indian guy knew his job and even called me back on the mobile so we could test the line.
I am the last person to praise call centres but I was very impressed with their communications.
My mrs works for CWP at their head office and I've asked her to pass on positive feedback for me.
However, I did contract work for Tiscali years ago and I still know someone who works in their NOC.
Even though CWP now own them I still wouldn't touch them with a barge pole :)
I also fell out with Plusnet who at the time, heavily marketed their there ADSL service as non capped then later introduced it and without any warning they capped me for a month.

I guess it's down to your own tastes at the end.. I've had a few isp's over the years, most of them had been taken over by others.. but so far plus is the most reliable - ok I know BT took a chunk of them but cannot complain so far and I've been a customer for years now

never had a problem with talktalk since moving from virgin (who gave us endless problems within the first two weeks of being with them, nobody knowing their job or how to fix a simple problem)
We are paying around £30ish a month for phone line, calls and broadband to talktalk and only time had to call was due to speed issue, which was instantly told (by an Indian person - some of them do know their jobs and spoke very good English) that all we needed to do was disconnect our upstairs phone box and we would get at least double our speed :)
