Tamron 16-300 or 18-270 (or something completely different

OK, I know the general feeling on these super zooms but I think I need one.

Why? you ask. Well I'm climbing at least 2 mountains this year coming (Ben Navis & Cotopaxi with a possible Elbrus thrown in for good luck). With all the other junk I'll have to carry a super zoom is a must.

So which is the better option optically, the 16-300 or 18-270?
These have £50 off for a couple more days so I could do with making an informed decision very soon. I heard the Nikkor was not worth the bankruptcy price compared to the Tamrons but I don't fancy climbing the mountain twice to retake photos.

Wouldnt you be better off getting a descent compact with long zoom, I'm sure you wouldn't lose a lot in IQ and would be less weight to carry,,

What will you be taking images of, personally having climbed quite a few peaks in Wales and the Lakes over the last few years, I've never needed anything longer than 50mm

@pete.rush I have no idea - I've never been to Ecuador nor Russia. Scotland has loads to photograph including wild life.
@mjb123 would you care to suggest a decent compact?

Haven't been to Ecuador nor Russia either

But the wildlife I did see needed something longer than 300mm, unless you mean

If your looking for super zoom then the Panasonic tz60 has good reviews and it has a view finder I think, otherwise the the Sony rx100 would be the closest to a dslr but you only have limited range!!

Panasonic tz60 has been discontinued.
The Sony doesn't have the range.
With the lack of contributors I'm going for the 16-300. May fortune benefit the brave (or fool hardy)
