I've now updated the thread title due to Intro 2020 finally receiving stuck.

October 29, 2009 in Japan according to www.tamron.co.jp/en/lineup/b005/index.html.

I've read a couple of reviews for the Nikon version and it looks promising.
If onestop digital list price is correct, I will be gagging to get my hands on one.
I've just noticed that onestop digital have dropped the price of the VC version for Nikon by about £7 and the non VC version by £5.
I wonder if the non VC version is going to be dropped from the Tamron range.

I had shopped around for a Nikon fit one a few days ago and saw them at £498 but onestopdigital are now offering them at £368 which is an amazing price.

I was tempted at £498, I don't know how I can resist now!!!

I hate you, not for being a Nikon user but because you can get your grubby mits on the Nikon version!

I don't suppose you could lend me £368 could you? I had my credit card cancelled due to fraudulent use yesterday so I need to wait 7 to 10 days to get my new card before I can buy anything. I'm not happy!!

I'd love to but if it means I can get my hands on the Canon version before you are in a posistion to buy the Nikon, then no :D

If you are buying it from OneStop just send them a bank transfer, you get another 2% off that way as well.

How much is the Canon version going to be on onestop digital then? Amazon have it at £469 and warehouse express @ £500+

I've bought from them before and clocked the 2% saving.

Excuse my ignorant question but would someone be kind enough to confirm the warranty & import duty situation when buying from One-Stop.

I know they are registered in Hong Kong & wondered how that affected things if there was an issue with the lens.

Thx in advance

I managed to sell my 18-200mm on here this afternoon so I've ordered the 17-50mm from OneStopDigital. Fingers crossed it arrives very soon. Fingers double crossed that it is actually the VC version because it's so much cheaper than everywhere else.

If it states 'VC' on the website then you have ordered the correct one.
Unless of course you clicked on the non VC version :)

You have no worries about import duty.
If you are charged for it, onestop digital will refund you 100%.
I've never heard of anyone actually being charged for import duty when buying goods for them.
Warranty the lens may have to be sent back to Hong Kong but I think (don't quote me on this) that Tamron offer an international warranty so you could deal with Tamron UK if neccessary.

Thank you for the speedy response Hashcake, much appreciated.

Now got to try to resist buying but its hard at that price

Your welcome.
I'm guessing you are Nikon user if so, give us some feedback on the lens if you order one.
I'm going to have to be a bit patient for the Canon version to be availabe.

Let us know what it is like when you get the Canon version, I have seen not ONE review for the Canon version yet online. Main thing I want to know is how it compares to the original non VC version in terms of image quality and also if it still uses the same (noisiest ever) AF motor.

If I do buy it mate can I borrow the dog in your picture for a few days to keep the wife at bay. I think I will need it.

The new VC copy(B005) uses 72mm filter, not 67mm(A16).

But compare with the Sigma HSM, the focus speed is slightly slow. And Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 Macro HSM costs £100 less.

I've posted this before...

Looks interesting and I'm waiting for reviews

Does the sigma have IS as well?

The non VC Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 is well known for being a lot sharper across the range than the sigma.
The sigma is a simliar price to the non VC tamron so your price comparison is not really relevant when compared to the new Tamron version.
The Tamron isn't just a standard lens with VC bolted on, it's a new design as well.
I can't comment on your point on the difference on focusing speeds but I expect this has improved on the new VC lens.

I notice that the new version looses a further 2cm of minimum focusing distance going from 27 to 29cm. I own the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 macro Canon fit. I find it a really good lens now that I have a good copy. The macro feature (MFD 20cm) I have to say is so handy. It would be so rare that I get the annoyance of having to step a foot back and recompose now, as I can take close ups of some things with the front element almost touching stuff and it often still focuses. With regard IQ, I always used to read of reviews stating that the Tamron was a tiny bit sharper than the Sigma equivalent, but these were always reviews comparing the OLD Sigma non macro version. The newer macro version is meant to be much improved.

It will be good if dpreview review the lens.

Morris Photography have emailed me today advising they now do not expect stock until January :( and a aprice of arond £485.
Looks like I'll be going for a HK import - LINK

Its a bit expensive I must say.

£100+ more than they priced the Nikon version :(
I also don't want to wait til January, I lack a general purpose zoom and have been waiting for this :(

Wait for oncestop digital to receive stock.
They are currently out of stock of the Nikon version so perhaps they will receive both with their next delivery.

Interesting that they are HK based.
They also claim to include an international warranty card.
If their stock is genuine import and not grey market then the likes of onestop should either have or soon be receiving them.

I have just sent an email to OneStop to see if they know when they will recieve stock :)
Oddly enough though Clifton Cameras have just replied to a query I sent them a few days ago saying they expect them within 2 weeks :shrug:

Oooh. Could let me know how you get on?

Well I'm not impressed with his reply.

So they don't have stock yet even though on ebay they state that 2 are available.
Where does £400 pounds come into play when they state £389.99 buy it now price on ebay..

I've replied to him so I will wait for his response.

Edit: He has now changed the price on Ebay to £399.98.

I think I will wait for onestopdigital to receive stock..

Update

His reply.

Dear darran1,
We did some mitake on Caculation. We have correct the listing price to 399.98GBP. Thanks

I wonder what would have happened if I had hit the buy it now price at £389.99
Although I really want this lens I am just going to have to wait for stock to hit HK.

I've just called Intro 2020 again (I know! I lack patience).
They've told me their batch arrived today and they've been sent out to the resellers.
The chap couldn't tell me at present who they've gone out to but as said he will call me back by 5:30.
If he does I'll post the details here for those who are prepared to pay the UK price(s).

Nothing I do about it but this isn't half frustrating.

Excellent!

A sterling bit of supplier harrassment on your part today, Hashcake! Seems the cheapest of those retailers, selling theirs at around £410 each, are Clifton Cameras and Bristol Cameras; the others are all £500+.

I spoke to Clifton just now, who checked with their stock department, and they said they should be receiving their consigment either tomorrow or Friday, and that, so far, they'd had no pre-orders. Well, now they have, coz I've just placed an order for mine £409.95 delivered. This includes a UK warranty, of course. Hope to have my grubby hands on it by this time next week at the latest.

I think that's a great price; seeing as OneStop have been selling the Nikon version at a shade under £370, I'm more than happy to pay the extra £40 for a UK warranty; being a brand new lens it's a bit of an unknown quantity, so I think the peace of mind is worth it ;)

I have to say, Intro 2020 have been very good, it's rare to find a distributor who will even talk to the member of the public.
I noticed Bristol Cameras also have it listed @ £410.
I've spoken to them this afternoon and they have 7 on pre-order but will give me a call if they have one spare.
I'd be happy to pay £410 but I'd like to go and pick it up rather than have it delivered.
So far none of the London dealers have it listed at that price and SRS in Watford who are amongst the first to receive stock are listing it @ £599.
Once you have received the lens, let us know what you think.
