Just got one of these for SWMBO to use on her D300 (and as a backup for my 24-70 Nikon), what a cracking lens for the money. I called Park Cameras at quarter to five on Monday, lens was here the next morning. Great service :).

I've read a lot of the comments on here about how good they are but there's nothing like trying one out for yourself! Picked up the 17-35mm a little while ago too, Tamron twins are complete :)

Did you get the one without the internal motor Phil?

I've owned three of these now (don't ask!) - for the money, they're hard to beat IMHO.

nope - its got the motor in. Af speed seems pretty good though, or are there other issues?

only taken some test shots in the garden but its very sharp, nice colours too...

No issues aside from AF speed. :) There is no difference optically, both are excellent. The non-motor version is quicker to focus in less than ideal light conditions (though the motorised version is not horrendous by any stretch).

The alternative trinity of 17-35, 28-75 and 70-200 really gives Nikon glass a run for its money.

For the price of the Nikon 24-70 you can buy all 3 of the Tamron Trinity, and have have enough left over to buy a 50mm f/1.4.

i have this and is my main lens

is it worth getting a niffty fifty?

I've just bought a 28-200 as a walkabout lens for my recent holiday. Are the 28-75 and 70-200 drastically optically better?

iv never tried the 28-200 but the tamron 28-75mm is a great lens, not too heavy like a lot of the 'walkabout' f2.8 lenses.

That was the advantage of the 28-200 for me - light and small. It doesn't do f2.8 though, but that's hardly surprising at the price.

Hi,

I recently bought the exact same lens from Gary Coyle on here for my D300 and it's a fantastic lens, very sharp and focusing seems fast as well at most F stops.

I was considering stumping up for the Nikon equilevent but with the Tamron at a fraction of the price, it was a no brainer decision for me from a financial point of view-I have already given my account a hammering this month on various camera related gear :D

The only thing I find with mine is that the zoom room is slightly stiff, it takes some getting used to when zooming while looking through the view finder as I have often thought that the zoom lock is on when in fact it's not!!

Top class lens for the price!!

Mike.

I was tempted to get the Tamron 70-200mm in the classifieds but held off for the time being....I'm being over-run by Tamron lenses atm, I have the 17-35mm, 28-75mm, 24-135mm and 90mm macro. :help:

I have the canon fit version of this lens and love it, it is up there in quality with my canon 70-200. Great lens for the money.

Yep, just got the same lens myself and although i haven't had much fun from it as yet, i'm well impressed.

Just managed to secure the 17-35 too! :D

P1TSE, i think it's fair to say it's always worth getting a Nifty Fifty. :)

I have this lens too, but missed the wide angle as 28 was a bit long, so I bought a canon 17-85 IS

Does anyone have any differences between the 2 apart from the obvious focal length issues? Which is the better quality picture-wise, as I am often wondering whether to use the tamron 28-75 a bit more. :D

I've just bought a Tamron 28-75 and sold my Canon 17-85IS.
I wanted a f/2.8 lens and if I need to go any wider, it will be for architecture or landscapes and I have the Canon 10-22 for that purpose.

OK so if you had the choice of 70-200VR or 70-200 Tamron plus 85mm f1.4 Nikon for portraits what would you have?

If you can't have both a 70-200mm VR & 85mm f/1.4 why not go for a Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 & 85mm f/1.4? Another option is to keep the VR and get the f/1.8 version of the 85mm lens.

its just lens lust, I'm going to wait until I've got the cash to buy a 85mm 1.4, hopefully won't be too long, selling the 70-200VR is something I know I'd regret :)
