in an ideal world,i would like a canon L SERIES LENS.as these cost ,what would be the best choice between the tamron and sigma.many thanks in advance.

Never used it on Canon, but in Nikon fit the Tamron 70-200 is optically stunning. Its dog-slow AF (probably shared by the Canon) is a real problem. Its optically better than the Sigma, no question about it. The slow AF on the Tamron may be a real showstopper.

I had the same dilemma last month and went for the Sigma because it has fast HSM focusing. The optics are very good, but I understand the Tamron is slightly sharper, but slower to focus. As I'm using it to take photos of dogs, horses, cars and motorbikes in action the fast focusing was important to me.
