Tamron warranty card missing...normal?

Just received my new Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 from Warehouse Express.

The lens box was wrapped in heavy duty bubble wrap and then enclosed in a plastic bag.

The box itself was not sealed. Usually (at least when I received Canon lenses) there are 1 or more little sticky seals on the edges of the box which you have to cut or remove to open the box.

Inside the box was the lens (in a plastic bag), the lens cap (also in a plastic bag), the instruction sheet (a single huge sheet that takes ages to unfold and could be used as a tablecloth!), a yellow sheet explaining the cautions to be taken with the lens, a red type sheet giving tips on how to get better photos and a small white slip with just the Serial No. and Model printed on it...

...but no warranty card?!? :suspect:

Is this normal? :thinking:

I've already mailed WHE to ask them why the box wasn't sealed and why there's no warranty card, still waiting on a reply.

The lens itself is unmarked and looks like new, but I won't be able to try it out until I get home later.
 
There should be a warranty card, but it doesn't matter, your receipt and/or another proof of purchase, such as a credit card bill with the transaction on it, is all you need in the event of a problem.

Well that's good to hear. I did find another thread on another forum where someone said that the salesreps sometimes get commission and have to send the warranty card to Tamron to claim it. Not sure if WHE have this policy, but I'm sure I'll found out in due course.

Tamron doesn't use seals on their boxes, and off the top of my head I don't know a manufacturer who does.

Doesn't explain why you don't have the card though!

I can't remember, Andy- do the Tamron boxes have the wee window on the side where the warranty card sits, so that the serial number is displayed?

Nah, those are Sigma.

Tamron serials usually come on a small typewritten scrap of paper, and its also marked on the top of the box along with the model code.

Tokina serial numbers are hand written on the box!
 
I had a reply from Martin at WHE. Basically says the invoice is proof of purchase and that it would be sufficient for warranty purposes and just to let them know if there are any operational problems with the lens. He didn't answer my question about where the warranty card was though!

If that's right about Tamron boxes not being sealed, then that's fair enough. Martin didn't mention that in his reply to me at all. I just remember the last couple of Canon lenses I bought had a little sticky seal where the lid opens, so wasn't sure if Tamron does the same.

Off to Cornwall this weekend so it will get a thorough testing anyway :) Any probs and I'll send it straight back.

The sole purpose of a warranty card in this country is to gather personal information about you. The manufacturer uses it for junk mail purposes, and to sell on to other companies who harvest this info, again for junk mail purposes.
 
The Uk warranty from Intro 2020 ( that's the company who import tamron into the Uk) is 1 year. However eu consumer rights say that a product must be working and suteable for purpus for no less than 5 years. So technically any electronic item comes with a 5 year limited warrentee. You don't need to register for this all you need is proof of purchase (your receipt) plus the sale info is saved on most supplier's systems for 10 years, so if you loose your receipt as long as you remember roughly when and what store it can be recalled.
Because tamron don't trade direct in the Uk intro 2020 remove the tamron registration card befor sale.
 
The EU consumer warranty doesn't apply in the Uk as our own Sale of Goods act supersedes it.
In the UK goods you purchase should be fit for the intended use and last a reasonable amount of time up to a maximum of 6 years.
The reason the warranty cards are removed is that they don't apply to the UK and instead give the purchaser a load of misinformation.
