Temporary car insurance ?

I wonder if anyone has experience of this?

My OH's car is still taxed and has an MoT but is no longer insured and we are looking at (for expediency & ease of process) using "we buy any car".

However, to drive it to the depot we need to insure it but only for that journey......hence the subject.

Any experience of buying temporary cover would be welcome :)
 
Some companies do cover for as short a period as one hour. Maybe you could ask a friend who is covered to drive any other car ..not belonging to him/her.

I had to sell my Prius and didn't want people arriving to test drive it. I'd had the cat converter stolen and the thieves would just wait until I renewed it and strike again. I know that happens. I paid £700 for the new one..local garage via 'after market' company. Toyota dealer cost £1400. I took it to 'we buy any car' and the chap just checked the mileage and gave it a cursory once-over. The money was in my bank account 48 hours later.

The vehicle has to be covered for a driver who is covered to drive other cars to drive it.
 
What I mean is that the car must already be insured. "Any other vehicle" just allows the policy holder to drive other vehicles (some cover all vehicles, others just the same type [car or bike] as the driver/rider is insured on) and be covered if that vehicle isn't already insured for them to drive as a named driver.
 
I've done this in the past - just give your insurance company a call and they 'should' cover you either for the journey or for an hour or two. (y)
 
Allow yourself 48 hours in case you don’t take up ( we buy any cars offer) as they do tend to look for any faults however minor .. my son works for them

When I sold mine it was the Covid era ..scarcity of new cars and parts so used car prices had shot up. After having it for 10 years I got £1800 less than what I'd paid. I was taken aback. I'd taken the log book ,in case..and ended up selling it and getting the bus back home. Pretty amazing,really.

FWIW

It is a 54 plate Toyota Corolla with a little over 63k on the clock.

It has cosmetic issues and some advisories from the last MoT that would need correction at some point. NB I surmise that 'we buy any car' scrap the MoT website as part of their electronic due diligence that gets reflected in the offer quote.

Frankly I surmise they put such cars straight into the auction market..........the engine alone is likely worth more in scrap sales than what they might offer!
 
I used daysinsure to pick up step father in laws car so I could deliver it to my son in law. All fairly easy to arrange and didn't cost much.
