Tethered shooting question

Hi guys, can anyone help with a Lightroom problem? I'm using Nikon, LR3, Mac Pro, USB hard wired tether.

I need to set up for tethered shooting next week. I've tethered wirelessly in the past which has written to the card and sent the image to the Mac simultaneously but it seems that when hard wired via USB, the image only sends to the Mac and doesn't write to the CF cards aswell.

Being a paranoid 'glass half empty' kinda guy I'm uncomfortable doing a whole days shoot with only one copy of the images on one HD and don't fancy breaking off periodically to copy files manually. Does anyone know if there is any way to get the images to auto backup to my second internal HD on the fly or alternatively is there any way of getting the files to write to the camera's cards as backup while tethered?

Unfortunately Nikon don't allow writing to the card and the laptop. :(

You could configure Time Machine to backup to the additional drive. OK this only once an hour but does stop you having manually backup. Plus if you get a break you could override TM and get it to back up then.

Unfortunately the automatic Lightroom backup option that's available on card import isn't available when shooting tethered.

Thanks guys, thought I might be missing something obvious but I guess not... seems a bit of an omission Adobe need to address though.

The Time Machine option looks like my best bet, thanks for the suggestion! :)

Automator is possibly one of the most overlooked tools in the Mac OS.

Just set it up... took some  but it works a treat now. Every shot I take dupes straight into a backup folder on the second drive.

I can see me automatoring a load of stuff now!
