Tethered shooting to ipad

I've done some googling and found that it's possible albeit slightly convoluted method, involving a wireless router, wi fi cards etc.
Just wondered if anyone had tried it, or knew of easier methods?

It just might give me the excuse I need to buy one :naughty:

not exactly "tethered" but im sure you can get a piece of software that controls your PC from the ipad (you can with an iphone) If you did this you could then "watch" the computer screen with the ipad and have it done that way. Not exactly perfect though.

This is purely from memory, and I may well be mistaken so I apologise in advance if I'm incorrect.....

I believe there was a recent article posted on one of the tech sites where it was suggested that by using some new-fangled wifi-enabled SD cards, one could shoot onto one of these cards which would send the image to another nearby card, which could be plugged into the camera connection kit and uploaded straight to the iPad.

I *think* that what I came across anyway. You might like to look into this yourself however as I may have collated several stories in my head to make the answer I was hoping for :D

That's sort of what I heard too, but with the added complication of Nikon not taking SD cards so you have to add a convertor into the equation!

Ah. I'm stuck with CF cards too, so never looked into it further either.

I wish Apple would open it up to receiving photos on-the-fly though, even if it meant connecting a cable to the camera or something. The ability to instantly review shots without needing a fully-fledged laptop would be brilliant!

If you're looking for an excuse not to buy an iPad though, don't look for one. Mines awesome!

I thought that you could use a USB card reader with the camera kit. I can try it if you'd like?

Yes you can, but I want to be able to shoot and the image be sent straight to the ipad either wirelessly or through a cable, without having to take the card out of camera. This is what I currently do but with a mac book, which is considerably heavier and bulkier than an ipad :)

Sorry a bit of a cross post. I knew what you needed, but thought the other posters were a bit misguided. Can your Nikon not just plug in to the usb port with the camera kit?

The D300s takes SD cards, but obviously that doesn't help you. You could always look into picking up a WT-4, but that costs about the same as your iPad did.

Some people have had varying levels of success using the Eye-Fi cards in CompactFlash adapters with various camera bodies, but the Eye-Fi folks don't offer any kind of guarantees or support for that usage.

Hmm i've no idea, anyone care to try it for me? or shall I have to buy and see :naughty:

That's what I heard, but I'm quite happy shooting with a cable attached, it doesn't need to be wireless. But bizarrely that seems even less likely

Looked into this option as well. You can use Eye Fi cards, but I have heard of problems with them recognising the computer sometimes. And as the cards are not exactly cheap for the Pro one to handle RAW images I decided to let someone else try them first. Matt Kloskowski, did a review of these cards on Lightroom Killer tips I think.

Not sure though these will see the iPad, as you need to load server software onto the host computer.

If anyone finds a way to do this, add me to the interested parties list
