TFCD bricking it

Right, I have set up a TFCD shoot with an established (but still amateur model) looking for her to expand into fashion type stuff with clothes from my sis's vintage shop and for me to get the hang of TFCD before a big group shoot that I am going along with on the same site (some here have seen me on it but mods might be cross if I name it ;))

Right anyway the point, I haven't set a date or really organised a location yet, mostly as I have no idea what to do. It'll probably come to me tomorrow while I'm working but atm I am bricking it a bit. Anyone wanna throw ideas at the wall and see what sticks with me.

This will be the first time I have shot someone who I haven't know before, which is why I'm doing it - to get over the nerves, but ya know now I'm nervous :D

now that is an idea good sir :D

but wtf am I gonna do for a location, thinking ambient and shallow DoF to stop me having to think about lighting so I can concentrate on the new thing at hand but I dunno

Hi David,
I was in the very same boat last weekend, my first time doing TFCD.

I met up with model and we went for a walk along the local canal, found loads of great locations: graffiti clad bridges, old iron gates, picnic bench to stand on... you get my drift.

I'm sure in Exeter you will find many opprtunities, Exeter Uni has fantastic grounds for a start, you have the river, ex bridges, the docks, the subway under the inner by-pass, the list is endless.

Just get out there and enjoy it, don't be nervous...whats the worst that could happen?

good luck
Neal

here's one of mine from last week

in Bude :D summer hols

where ya based flash? ya know exe fairly well :D

fields are a good idea, to an extent it will be wardrobe dependent, or I could ditch the shop idea and work from a jeans and T shirt basis dunno, thinking the castle and its grounds maybe

I'd seriously think about either hiring a small studio, or at least find an indoor location where you can bumble away in private...
It's easier to control the light indoors anyway...

We probably all had this problem with our first model shoot - maybe do what I did on my first nude shoot - looked at all the photos I liked and made rough sketches of them along with notes on the lighting - then at least you have something to fall back on if inspiration doesn't strike...

Also it helps enormously if you think of this as a test-session - take lots of photos - work out what works and what doesn't, then make another appointment and build from there...
