At 1/5 of the cost of the 600mm f4 plus the weight saving I’m sure it’ll appeal to many. I’ve shot at f8 in the UK (100-400mm plus tc) plenty of times without having to resort to silly high ISO. Of course the 600mm f4 will still be advantageous a lot of the time (y)
 
Having joined the Sony band I'm looking for a compact TTL speedlight for an A6400 that won't cast a shadow of the lens. Considering a Godox iT32, which with another adaptor thingy I could use on my Nikon system. Any other (cheapish) suggestions?

Depends what you want to use it for.

We have an IT32 and its sort of okay for a bit of fill but not very powerful, cool little toy though and as you said if you have another camera system you can use it on both by buying another x5 trigger.

The V480 is very small and a lot more powerful so might be an option for you as well. It also has its own dedicated battery instead of the built in battery of the IT30 and IT32.

The older IT30 will do a similar job as the IT32 but you can't snap it of to use wirelessly like you can with the IT32 and you would also need to buy the riser as well so you don't get lens shading. The IT30 is far and away the smallest TTL flash, with the riser you can also bounce it as well. You can also ditch the riser if you are using smaller lenses making it tiny.

Just to give you an idea of size thats a V480, an IT30 with the riser, an IT32 and a V860III to show comparison on what a normal size flash would be.

I often need a more powerful flash than the IT30 and the IT32 so the V480 is my favourite as it's a good bit smaller than our V860's and V1's so much so I will be replacing those with V480's. Plus I prefer the new touchscreen interface it is a lot more intuitive than the older system. V480 are also very cheap not much more than an IT32.

Thanks. Good to see them all side by side. Unlike the lighting gurus my use for flash is when it's too dark to manage without it! :D Pop-up flash usually works for me but I've had lens shadows with the A6400 so need to get some elevation. The V480 is too large for keeping in a pocket as it's rare I use flash. The iT30 plus riser might suffice, but the iT32 could be more use with an extra x5. And as you say, it's a cool toy - which triggers instant GAS!

If anyone is interested, I've reluctantly decided to put my mint RX100 VII (with accessories) up for sale in the Sony classified section ?

IT32 and IT30 is basically the equivalent of a pop up flash if you are happy enough with a pop up those will do fine.

I didn't know they had discontinued it, it's still listed on their main product page, and shows up in Google searches from the usual UK stockists.
It's about 25% heavier (360g vs 290g) and a bit bigger in all dimensions - but you do get a significant increase in power.

Fair enough. Don't forget this one also has 2 additional genuine Sony NP-BX1 batteries (making a total of 3), and the Genuine Sony AG-R2 side grip, which at the very best new price today is an additional £85 of extras ?

to be honest I haven't had much luck selling these days. Most of my gear have gone to MPB.
Even my prices have been close to the MPB trade-in quotes rounded up to nearest round figure+delivery.

the grey market has defiantly affected the used on here anyway, and anyone can check MPB quotes within seconds now so that give's them two markers to base prices on.
For me unless its at least 2/3rds of the new price its not worth taking the chance on used kit, I would rather have to save slightly longer to buy new grey or buy used from a store with a guarantee.

I know you obviously spent far more than the current value, but with new grey, and knowing what stores would offer, I couldn't have made an offer without it seeming to take the p***, it really isn't a sellers market.
The last few items ive sold have been FB market place rather than here and even there I have to drop the prices to match what trade in I would receive.

I hate it but Facebook is useful.

I sold 2 lenses and 2 iPhones on Facebook on Saturday within about 2-3 hours of listing them. That includes the time needed for the people to come, collect and pay. Although tbf one guy bought both phones.

Grey prices certainly affect it on here.
In the past I used to able to sell unused accessories quite easily also which are less affected by grey market.
I am struggling to sell/clear-out anything in general that's photography related.

I am done with upgrading/swapping lenses now.
Just filters, flashes and accessories left. Not getting anywhere on here or ebay, might try FB marketplace though I am not super hopeful.

Trying to sell something on here is a waste of time.

Over moderation and moderators pushing their own agenda has meant loads of people have sacked the forum off. Then on top of that younger people find forums full of aul lads boring so don’t use them so they aren’t able to attract enough new members to replace those that no longer have an interest in it. On a wedding photographer Facebook group I am in there is a ton of old members from here.. That means this place just simply doesn’t have the same amount of people using it anymore as you can see with most of the forum being pretty dead.

Then as you say people on here will always check trade in prices and grey prices and expect to pay that.

I actually think that trade in prices have effected pricing on here more than grey. Way back trade in valuations used to be around 60% of new price now they are often much lower than that. On here the general rule of thumb back in the day was that a fair used price was two thirds of new that’s not the case anymore if you want to sell something.

Off the 2 lenses I sold via Facebook on Sat one of them was used when I bought it and I sold it for the same price I bought it for. The other was bought new and I took a 25% hit on it which I was happy enough with.

I have another lens to sell at some point but just like with the other two I feel trying to sell on here is a waste of time. Last time I sold something on here the guy didn’t send the money and after chasing him for a few days eventually said he changed his mind. Who can be bothered with that.

And speaking of selling to MBP both my last quotes have been increased inc. my latest 35GM trade-in. So if I had sold here at my asking price I'd have got some 20 quid extra. not worth the hassle, much prefer trading in at this point.
 
I also think that with constant new releases this also affects the value, especially cameras. For example, despite the RX1R III being flawed it's caused the prices of the RX1R II to plummit. The used price of the Mark II has been relatively stable for quite some time, and since the Mark III they're about 15% lower. I of course bought at exactly the wrong time and lost a packet :(

A lot of my stuff has sold on here eventually but I sort of agree with you about the hassle as there have been times when I've felt people want kit for pennies and for me to pay the postage. At least some dealers pay the postage. I'd still rather sell on here even if at a slight loss compared to what a dealer would give me but in the hope that the buyer does use the kit rather than buy to sell on for a profit.
 
Today I used the A7cII's + 40mm f2.5 eye detect on squirrels and it seemed to work well.

I think there is a huge grudge with many on this point. They would rather sell to the dealer than an individual at the same price.
It’s a tough one though as only recently have the used prices been compared to grey/ dealer buying so much.
Everyone knows the dealers will bump the price a fair bit and hope to then get that price when selling private, which before grey became popular was what happened.

Not Sony related but I put my drone up at the average price I saw on FB and eBay for used, above what trade in was and all I’ve had was offers far below. Comically low infact . I’m in no rush or need to sell though.

I'd rather sell to an individual on here who will use the kit.

I normally look at what's sold on ebay and price my stuff below. When I have a quote from a dealer I'd rather see it go for the same price on here or only slightly lower as I always state that I'm paying the postage whereas as above some dealers do pay the postage and there's a limit to my generosity... but I have also given stuff away.

On principle I agree but if I need to go through more effort to sell for same price as trading in I can't be bothered.
My lens picked to on Monday, paid on Tuesday with an upgraded offer.

To sell on here, I'll have to list it, take pictures of the items, answer questions, then wait a long time for it to sell and then post it. It's just a lot more hassle.
Once up on a time I had more time and money and I used to enjoy the buying and selling aspects of the hobby/GAS.
I no longer have as much time or the money to swap as frequently.

If the effort involved was the same I'd much prefer to sell to an individual. I don't even know how long it'll take to sell to an individual, with a dealer i know exactly when it's getting picked up and roughly how long till I get the money.

Normally i get a quote and then I try to sell to an individual before that quote expires. If I haven't found a buyer I'll accept the quote and move on. This is my compromise...

Yes, it can be a faff on and even if you get a sale it can leave you feeling somehow disappointed.
