The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

If you throw your batteries into a deep bag with a load of other items them I can understand getting a battery pouch is handy but if not, I don't see the point.

I tend to use battery covers just to stp and lint and other crud getting on the contacts.

My reason is simple - massively OCD and hate things out of place :)
(plus, as my Missus will confirm, I may have a bit of a bag buying addiction lol)

Having said the above, my little battery pouch does make it very easy to know which batteries need charging as when they are full I have them in forwards, when I swap one out I put it in backwards.

@liyama there is definitely interest! Let me know?
Hi

Sorry for the delay in replying The last few on Ebay have gone for a lot more than £430 and given the new price and the inevitable increase I would not let it go for £430. Most go for closer to £600!! Scary.

Ill check with MPB for another indicator too

Well just come back from Hardwick Hall was really needing a wider lens than my 55mm inside at some points. So thinking adding another lens to my kit already. 28mm f2 or 35mm 2.8

Not an easy choice between those two. The 28 would probably be a better companion to the 55, but the 35 is tiny and great for a small setup.

Not sure which I'd go for if I were looking.

As you may know I like my 35mm f2.8 :D

If you don't see a wider lens seeing much use you could always go for a manual lens for indoor shots. A 28 or 35mm f2.8 plus an adapter will be a fraction of the cost of the AF 28mm f2 or 35mm f2.8.

Off topic... GF had a health care shock out of the blue this week and is now facing two ops ASAP. Puts everything into perspective :(

A7+Minolta 50mm f1.4.

Sorry to hear that, perspective indeed. All the best for a speedy resolution.

As others have said the 28mm is a wounderfull companion to the 55mm, these two are the backbone of my prime lens setup.

But which would give better iq but I guess the 28mm be better in low light being f2

The problem is that both lens are good. Very good (Sony FE 28mm f/2 , and FE 35mm F/2.8)

P.S. @woof woof - Wish her speedy recovery!

What tempt me for the 35mm is cos it it more compact which surprise me really as would of though 28mm be smaller? I can get the 35mm Used for £400 the 28mm be around £350 new

Not sure there's much in the iq between the 28 and 35, I have both and they are very good compact lenes. I just tend to use the 28mm as it goes so well with my 55mm.

Adapters are cheap yes because they are dumb ones not electronic.

There are a few dealers about that still deal with older manual lenses but most of mine have come from eBay. I'm going to be selling a few of mine soon - Helios 44-2, Sigma 24 2.8 and Yashica long zoom - 75-200mm or something I think it is.

What mount is the SIgma you're selling? Looking to get a Helios 58mm, but was then looking at some FD options as this mount seems to cover lots of lenses... Ideally I'm after some wide (28mm and under)_ and longish; 85-100mm.
Anythings you particularly recommend / avoid?

If you shot a lot with the 55mm then I'd say go with the 28mm to compliment it. I have just the FE35/2.8 & it does sit nicely in the middle for me & I can't knock the IQ of it really - My only complaint is sometimes I wish for bigger than f/2.8 ;)

I'm not & haven't been a big buyer seller as such so there are people out there with a lot more knowledge than me. Most older lenses suffer from CA more so than being unsharp etc - Again, depends how much you peep though ;) I use to like the look of a lens, Google for reviews/blogs, have a look through Flickr groups....

The Sigma is an FD mount & it is a good performer really - It's just I have an FD28 so one really needs to go. The FD85/1.8 is lovely too IMO as is the 50/1.4 if you wanted to stick with a single mount. All reasonable with budget too - the Sigma 24, FD50 & FD85 plus adaptor was under £200 for me.

Love the Mark 1 Escort, more of these please ;) What preset did you use for the processing of this and your other car pics?

Seascape's nice too (y)

Thank you. I get asked that a lot - In all honesty, I don't think I do a lot!! I use Lightroom, I sometimes play with the 'camera calibration' dropdown, adjust WB usually on the warmer side, kill the blacks in curves & sometimes add a split tone. I may adjust individual colour channels but usually only on things like grass [yellowish > greener] & sometimes skies. I don't use PS or layers or use masks etc etc

Thanks. TBH I just assumed you'd used a preset, nice style you've created then (y)

Woofwoof, sorry to hear about your GF, hope she makes a speedy recovery.

Likewise, sorry to hear about the new Alan, my best wishes to you and your girlfriend for a speedy recovery.

Right so I'm over the moon with the GM lenses and pretty much sold on the whole GM direction Sony are taking (apart from the cost).
The no compromise quest for IQ seems to be paying off but we won't know until the really high mega pixel cameras start showing their faces and we start seeing the limits of DSLR lens limitations in terms of resolving power vs GM's.

What I would like now is a 12-24mm f2.8 GM, a 50mm f1.2/1.4GM and a macro GM.
The GM lenses are big and heavy just like DSLR versions so I'm hoping Sony make the A9 with this in mind as mounting the GM lenses on a A7RII without the grip looks silly.

For my holidays and a light carrying setup I'm looking at A7RII with 55mm 1.8 and the 35mm 2.8, these lenses are small and light.

Sadly, I'm going to offload my Batis 25 & 85mm lenses :(

Hope your girlfriend is okay and everything works out well. Take care.

Has anyone seen any reviews etc for the 70-200 f2.8 yet? (production model, not pre)

Haven't seen any myself, usually when Sony release a new lens at least a couple of artisans do a video.

I know customers in USA have already received lens, has anyone in UK yet?

Helios 58 and Canon FD 24mm purchased (along with adapters). I'm looking forward to shooting manual, and be interesting to see how the old glass fares on the A7R2.
It'll at least tide me over for the months (and months) of saving for the GM 90mm (or Batis) and/or Loxia/Batis 21/18mm.

An A7II has just been purchased. I need a 24-70mm or a 55mm.
If you see or hear of any please let me know ASAP

Welcome to the club :)
I'd try and go for the Sony Zeiss FE 55mm f1.8 first as its a stellar lens.

There are a few written reviews out there, try Steve Huff, he's also done a short video about it.
Not got a date for my 70-200mm GM yet :(

I've decided to keep my Sony Zeiss 55mm f1.8 as its such a good lens and relatively small in size & weight.
Going to buy the Sony Zeiss 35mm f2.8 to go with it as my light weight travelling setup. :)

Have you considered the 28mm f2? Goes very well with the 55mm and they are the backbone of my prime setup.

I thought about it but think 35mm would be better for me, also it's a rather small and compact lens. :)
