TBH I usually get to grips with a camera in a few days, and will know whether it's for me or not. I'm one of those geeks who goes through all the settings to see what it does too ;)

I'd also wager the A9 is easily capable of whatever the A7SIII is gonna be or at least very similar. They're definitely holding the hardware back video wise.

It's not bad to focus for the intended use / market the lens is aimed at.... which is portrait work.

There isn't a huge difference between 1.4 and 1.8 so for me, it would make more sense to forego half a stop of light and actually get consistent keepers then instead of spray and prey. Of course, it's not a G lens so my mate's would all ridicule me but I could live with that..
 
Instead of the Adobe profile, I used Camera Vivid - then I tweaked WB, Exposure, Crop

Yes there will be limitations

But a dude shot outdoor volleyball in the bright sun with 85mm 1.4 - the photos rendered so lovely - with sharp subject with great isolation and bokeh.

So I wouldn't shy away from using it from action.

I don't think all of the Sony lenses so far have been previously done and dusted but don't take my word as gospel, read the various reviews and blogs that say that they've been busy knocking out lenses suitable for use on higher resolution "FF" bodies. That's pretty new.

yeah but not sure if they got any of their technical expertise in terms of people.

Not really... its not like canon and nikon lenses are slouches on high MP bodies atm

Looks good. I've just been playing about with some Sony RAWs and I have to say that on the whole the camera profiles for the Sony aren't great. Adobe standard is far too magenta and too muted, camera standard is too greeny yellow and really messes up skin tones, and the others are similar. I did quickly create a profile that I liked though, and tbh I had to do the same with Nikon, although it wasn't quite as extreme. It just proves to me though that when we talk about skin tones etc etc of a camera if really does depend on the software and the profiles used (unless you shoot jpeg in which the profile can't be changed). It's a shame that you can't have a true RAW profile to work from rather than having to tweak a Lightroom profile, and I'm not sure exactly how these profiles work tbh. I had a go at selecting the adobe standard and tried tweaking all the different colours (hues, saturation, luminance as well as the primary colours and shadows in the calibration section), tweaking contrast, whites etc etc and there's no way I could make one profile look exactly like another (i.e. adobe standard to camera standard) so there's clearly some other software processes at play here.

(just to re-iterate this is for all manufacturers, not just Sony ;))

I think you'll like the G Master :) make sure you update the firmware to latest (05).

D850 holds no interest for me - would never want anything bigger than the D750 TBH!

D850 interests me, the future of XQD and what Nikon are doing next is enough for me not to pull the trigger, plus what I said about ideally just wanting one system. The D850 does feel good to use though.

Wanted to try a high res camera really! Price is good, the EVF is nice and its smaller than the D850!

Plus I thought it was time to give mirrorless a proper go. It's the future... apparantly!

Interested to know as I have seen a used one and been offered a good deal meaning I wont lose a penny I paid for my 70-200 but thinking if I need to do it
