Busy working a FT job and mid wedding season
I've seen you're switching it was a bit tongue in cheek. Did you go for the R last time and what you going for this time ?
Currently borrowing my mates A7iii as he is buying a 2nd A9. Only with the kit lens at the moment! If I go for the 2.8 70200 then any primes are on hold!

From the outside looking in (I'm following Canikon with interest but have no intention of buying) I can't see what the new systems offer over Sony. I don't have legacy Nikon AF lenses and I'm not a blogger
What does the Nikon offer that's got you interested?
35mm f1.8 and 300mm f4 PF primes (adapter seems to offer native like AF performance with 300mm f4 PF lens).

I'd definitely take a look at any Sony mount AF 35mm f1.8 and will probably buy one but for me not having one is not a problem that'd force me to change systems as I have a MF 35mm f1.4 and the AF f2.8 and although an AF f1.8 would be lovely on most occasions and maybe the vast majority of occasions f2.8 on FF is just enough for me
Changing systems would come with expense and possibly the loss or downgrading of some features (compared to an A7III) and I'd lose the lovely 55 and 85mm f1.8's.
Sony gets a lot of crap about expensive lenses... here are some comparisons

Amazon are bastards lol. Currently my account is on hold because the ‘amazon logistics’ delivery people claimed that I signed for a parcel and I wasn’t even in. Then they said it was delivered to a neighbour and they have a signature on file but for security reasons they couldn’t tell me which neighbour!!!
They then put my account on hold for ‘security’ reasons!
So amazon 3 pack is also on hold!

Didn't even use the camera until I'd fitted it, I can be such a clumsy klutz at times. I thought it was a good price and it fitted very well.

The issue that I've always had when considering Sony was the 2nd hand aspect. I very rarely buy new and am often happy with a previous generation lens if it does the job. To put it in context, I recently bought a used Nikon 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8 VRII, and two Sigma Art Primes for less than the cost of a single new Nikon/Sony 70-200. At the moment, you can't really do the same with E-mount stuff or at least it didn't seem so when I last looked into it, but I really like that Sigma has now started making native stuff and of course as time marches on, more lens availability generally will start to filter down. But yes, as it stands, the switch over cost for me is too high in just the same way it would be too high for me to go out and buy new Nikon's latest and greatest.

But thats not Sony's issue though. Older stuff will always be cheaper second hand, yet sony always seem to get beaten about expensive glass. Its a bit like moaning an iphone x is to expensive when you can pick up a second hand Samsung galaxy s2 for a few quid on ebay, both surf the internet and make phone calls after all ... an aston martin is expensive compared to a 2001 ford escort from "dodgy daves" but both take you shops ok,
Having the latest and greatest doesn't stop people going out and taking great photos, everyone is limited by budget so you just buy the best you can afford and get out taking photos, any way rant over (edit not actually directed to you Gad, just we would all love stuff to be cheaper but need to be realistic and as you say e mount just isnt old enough yet to have the amount available second hand,)

Yep, all fair points, just putting out the real reason why I personally couldn't move to Sony recently where Canon and Nikon were both options. Everything Sony related is still basically shiny and new and costs reflect this. It's good that we're at the start of of what is likely to be a big shift though. Consumers can only benefit.

You also have to consider, due to the short supply of Sony FE lenses on the used market vs Nikon/Canon, sellers won't lose too much sometimes if demand is high.
When I sold all my Sony gear the first time around, I hardly lost anything... this was a combination of buying at good prices and pre-Brexit.

Now that both Nikon and Canon have announced their mirrorless systems, I think we can relax as they don't seem to be posing a big danger in terms of features / functions etc compared to our Sony generation / A9 bodies.
The Canon AF system combined with around 5000 AF points and the ability to focus down to -6EV is interesting But for me, nothing is really making me think "wow".
However that doesn't mean I don't want to see some things carried over to the next A9 / A7 IIII bodies on top of what has already been suggested...
Slightly larger bodies with pro-grade weather sealing
Top plate LCD
Full touch screen / menu GUI
Internal social media / FTP via 4/5G data connection
Bring on the Sony A9 II ...... maybe they can make it with 42.2mp and retain the same speed performance

Maybe an RF style body would be nice but whatever they do I think they should fit a SOTA EVF.
Oh, and two control dials for the next A6xxx body and maybe a mini SLR style APS-C camera.
Overall though I actually a bit shocked that Canon and Nikon have both entered the market with such (arguably) weak and behind the cutting edge systems, and with the headline grabbing but maybe very slow selling lenses.

Are you sure both the Nikon and Canon can run C-AF in a usable fashion for tracking subjects. I thought the Nikon only locked on AF and AE on the first frame?
With the Sony A7 III I believe is calculates AF and AE for each frame, even at 10fps. You only need to drop to 8fps if you want a more updated view (live view).
