I always kept my grip on my d750. It's a human hangup about cameras. Every time dick and harry are taking selfies. Get someone who's spent a few k on a camera and they feel self conscious about lugging it around.
Be the guy with the camera own it! People love having their photos taken so do police dogs it's a fact Google do police dogs like their photos taken. I digress
In a perfect world we'd all be open minded and liberal and let everyone do their own thing but sadly snapping with a smartphone seems ok but carrying a camera can mean being called a P**** or a perv especially when I'm alone. I've found the worst are middle aged women who tend to glare and comment and teenage to twenty something boys who can act intimidatingly and aggressively. I don't intimidate easily and I can spout Anglo Saxon better than most but I'd rather avoid having to and having more discrete camera gear seems to help. Maybe I don't live in the best of places, the attention / perv factor is though one of the reasons I moved away from DSLR's.
At the show yesterday I just wouldn't have wanted to be bothered carrying such bulky gear.
