I can see the appeal in the grip for portrait orientation shooting but if holding a non gripped camera in that orientation bothered me too much I could just shoot landscape and crop but I do understand that cropping takes time and perhaps a percentage of people using cameras like this (working professionals?) wont have time to crop.
