The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

That looks nice and it has a wider aperture than the existing one, a shame it's bigger though.

Yes it looks lovely and for those who don't insist on an 85mm f1.x it could be worth a look especially considering how compact it looks. I already have the Sony 85mm f1.8.

My new assembled in Yorkshire laptop has arrived! Yipee!

After sending hours putting stuff on it this is my first picture to be processed.

Sony A7 and Sony 35mm f2.8.

What laptop did you get in the end?

It's a PC Specialist i5 with 8gb ram and a 1tb ssd. It seems ok so far as I haven't found a fault with it yet and the screen is I think a bit brighter than the ACER that went back to AO.

Oh drat.

I've just tried to print from my Epson R2880 and the colours are way off. With this one the yellow shirt is coming out pink.

This is with a driver I've just downloaded. Any suggestions?

Do a nozzle check make sure all colours are working. They block easily if you don't use them often enough.

Yup. I need to start from basics but will also try from my old pc. I'll take another look another day... I've had enough of computers for today :D

A bit WIDE for me!!

My 20mm G F1.8 arrived this lunchtime….. Unfortunately it was my missus instead of me that got to the door first when UPS arrived and I am now in the dog house and having to negotiate compensation…… a week away, new furnIture and so on are all in the mix :)

I too like your photo, the colours are great. I would be interested to see a cropped version with less sky in it but what do i know. Cant wait to get out and use mine.

Oh dear.

I quite like mine but don't use it much.

Blimey. With that much in the compensation you should have both the 50GM too and made it worthwhile...... ;) :ROFLMAO:

Thanks though. I do crop my verticals 4:3 but I guess if my name was Heaton a square would suit it well.....

It seems to be. Just bad luck really as the first one died during set up and my guess is that the ac adapter was faulty causing it to shut down when the battery was exhausted and the second had faulty usb ports which the repair centre failed to fix.

I think I'd buy another off PC Specialist as it's nice to be able to configure a lap top and have it arrive relatively quickly especially when they seem to be in short supply just about everywhere plus buying this supports an employer in the north of England.

As a dweller of the North of England, thank you.

My first job in computers was with Systime in Leeds. Happy days, apart from sensitivity to rosin and decades of coughing.

Other than that. For those of us who don't own the Sony 50mm f1.2 this the moment we've been waiting for, Ken Rockwell's review.

Also after advice on primes. I have about £1k to spend and ideally want a 35/85 set up. Do I pick up the Sony 1.8 versions or alternatives. Could splurge on a 35 GM at an absolute push, but ideally wanted both FLs covered for the price….for family photography as I have 2 young kids.

Struggling to decide between an A7C or A7iii. Persuade me either way!
The lack for front control dial on the A7c is a deal breaker for me.

The Sony F1.8's are great lenses. Not sure how much a used/grey Sigma 85mm f1.4 DG DN is but might be worth a look, cracking lens?

How important is the EVF to you id say that's the main difference, then lack of front wheel, but with all the custom buttons it's almost a non issue, use MyDial settings and with a single custom buttons you change what the wheels do so can flip between functions. Also with a few lenses now having aperture control you don't need the front wheel.
AF is better on the C, it's smaller, it's better built.

Coming from a D750 I think the AF is going to be a big difference either way. I usually shoot in aperture priority mode which means less need for multiple control wheels, but do shoot manual in tricker light.

Coming from a DSLR I am used to shooting with a viewfinder so transition to a screen will be a bit different.

At the end of the day you need to just figure out what your priorities are then the choice will be easy.

Mine were size followed by AF ability so the choice was easy. It's why it took so long to upgrade from my A7R as the bodies went bigger so want interested.

Yeah a smaller 35 and a 1.4 85 could be an option. The 85 is only going to see use on dedicated photo opportunities, the 35 is the daily lens so makes sense to keep the 35 smaller and lighter.

How do you find the image quality. Pleased? What are your thoughts on the articulated screen?

Articulated screen is great, much prefer it to the simple fold out one.
Image quality is great, I think they just tweeked the colour science on the C but otherwise the same across both cameras, from reports the stabilization is ever so slightly better on the C as well.
No full mechanical shutter on the C though if that's an issue for you, I shoot 99% of the time in full electronic shutter.

Differences between them.

The lack of a second front/top dial really puts me off the A7c and you're stuck with EFCS all the time plus afaik no auto switching between mechanical and electronic shutter. But that's me, I do wish someone could put a Sony FF sensor and mount on a Panasonic GX9 :D

I think looking at the control and layout and thinking about how you take pictures is a good starting point as that rules the A7c out for me but others may well be overjoyed with it.

I was messing on with a new pc and printing yesterday and I now have two imo very nice prints but what to do with them?

I used to have some mostly A3 but smaller prints framed and up on the wall but when we redecorated I took them down and decided I liked the clean minimalist look :D but what to do with "nice" prints? I have a storage box rapidly brimming with them and I made a book of wedding pictures so I suppose another or even some books could be an option plus I do have one framed picture of Mrs WW on a shelf in the bedroom.

What do you guys do? Does anyone print and if so how big and how often and what do you do with them? Frame and wall mount or mount on the furniture? Or just not bother and view on screen? I used to have one of those digital picture frame jobbies, not sure where it went. I think a relative bagged it.

I need to look more in to the intervelmeter' use with an A7c before I decide on that or the 7iii - That's certainly a dealbreaker for me without a simple work around.

There isn't one, there is a built in time lapse but max 30s exposure.
You can use the bluetooth remote to do them manually.

An Ilford film simulation.

A7 and 35mm f2.8.

I wanted to go on the eye but Mrs WW nearly exploded when she saw the price, she's rather stingy :D

Well, there's the Camranger. Shutter App (currently Apple only) but I'm still not sure what the slowest shutter speeds are on those because it doesn't go into that information.
