Nope, myself and everyone I speak to says the same. I don't know whether it's just modern times, or whether the weather doesn't feel very Christmassy but it just doesn't feel like it at all. Of course in mycase it's more likely me just getting old and grumpy :lol:

Funnily I was just saying this to the wife and kids doesn’t feel like Xmas is only 4 days away.
The kids both now being teen girls means they just stay in there rooms mainly and didn’t want anything fun and exciting for Xmas.
No more family movies or board games..
gives me more time with the dog I guess she’s my favourite anyway.

We had our Camera Club's Christmas lunch on Friday.
Took the bus to Dunnottar Castle and walked the coastal path back to Stonehaven for lunch.
A great day out (y)

It doesn't feel like the Christmases of just a few years ago as I now have no local family and Mrs WW has banned me from buying any presents for her. I loved visiting family on Christmas day and I know it's commercialised but I did like buying and giving presents. On the plus side we have more cards and interactions with people than we've had for many years, just not family.

We missed carols in the car park this year and sadly it rained but we will make it to carols by candlelight (that one is indoors) and the Christmas morning service. We had a lovely service today too.

100% crop from the Sony 40mm. We could have spent all day feeding squirrels as there seemed to be an infinite number of them.

It's a miserable day here too. Dull, flat light, no sky and raining a bit.

The Sony RX1R M2 has lovely rendering, however I've just discovered that bokeh balls aren't the best, lots of onion rings

Is that a full picture or a crop? If it's full that isn't too good but the camera will still have other charms.

If I was buying now I would probably opt for something else.

Not the 35GM is not a god lens it is. However its very warm compared to my other lenses. I know a lot of wedding photographers who ditched it to get the newer Sigma 35 f/1.2, the f/1.4 version and the Viltrox 35 f/1.2 as they aren't as warm. Many seem to think they have nicer rendering than the 35GM as well.

The 35 G.M has very fast A.F though.

if i was buying again now with the other options that are available now i would probably get one of the Sigma's.

What stops me is the size. I have the 35mm f1.8 and f2.8 and MF wise I have the Voigtlander f1.2 and f1.4. Even the Sony f1.8 and Voigtlander f1.2 are getting towards the too large end of the scale for me. I would like an AF 35mm f1.4 just for the gas but I can't see myself ever buying one the size of the GM.

The 35mm GM is great for capturing dogs running around so I'm sure it works just as well for kids ;)

It's my smallest lens, although not the lightest as that's the 20-70mm. The size and weight are great I think, and it's why I'm preferring it over the 50mm f1.2 these days.
 
The size is a consideration - I do love my Samyang 35/2.8 for the size.

Also given the size of the 35 GM when I consider it even darker thoughts start to form… a little voice whispers “if it’s not a compact setup anyway why not get an A1 series body…”

My ideal would be to get close to the size and weight of the 1st camera I had, Kodak Instamatic 36. I'm never going to get anywhere near that weight but it is possible to reduce the size a bit with modern kit. That could maybe be most possible with an RX1 but also how I take pictures has changed and I now use the back screen a lot for the lower perspective and ideally I'd like a do it all back screen or at least a tilting one. The Panasonic GX80 is relatively small and light but the limitations of the MFT sensor and lenses disappoint me since I got the A7. The A7cII cures the IQ complaints of MFT but it is significantly bigger and heavier than the GX80 as are the lenses.

Lens wise the 35 and 55mm f1.8 and the slightly larger 20mm f1.8 are really a little larger than I'd ideally like. An A7III with a do it all or tilting back screen would go a long way to being my dream and a small AF 35/40mm f1.4 of the optical quality of the Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 (which IMO is good from f2 with wider being ok for some scenes and emergencies) would make me very happy. I just can't see myself ever buying the current Sony 35 or 50mm f1.4's even if they are the smallest current FF mirrorless lenses of their type.

I really enjoy using the RX1R M2, it is really frustrating that the M3 doesn’t have a tilt screen.

Mrs WW gave me permission to get a new Evoque or maybe a newer one than mine but so far I haven't. Using man maths that means I have at least used Evoque money available to spend on cameras and lenses. Spending less would be a saving :D and it's always nice to save money, for a rainy day.

As trev says the GM has a clicked aperture ring, the Sigma art lenses also have clicked aperture rings.

Many thanks all, wow I didn’t realise how much of a choice there’d be, I was expecting maybe one or two MF lenses and that was all.
Off to read up on the reviews, unfortunately I think the gm will be out of budget but I’ll have a good look, I’ve always fancied a voigtlander and having settled on 35mm as my go to focal length they’re sounding interesting.

The GM is currently £789 on Cotswolds, it’s a steal at that price imo.

plenty of options with aperture rings

Sigma - 35mm f2, 35mm f1.4, 35mm f1.2 (both mk1 and 2)
Sony 35mm f1.4 GM, Sony zeiss 35mm f1.4 ZA
MF - the voigtlanders above, voigtlander 35mm f2 APO lanthar, zeiss loxia 35mm f2 (which are optically much better than f1.2/f1.4 versions)

Then there's other Chinese branch lenses like viltrox 35mm f1.8 AF, viltrox 35mm f1.2 LAB, meike 35mm f1.8 AF, sirui 35mm f1.4 etc etc

plus there also a bunch of small 40mm primes with aperture rings like sony 40mm f2.5 and ttartisan 40mm f2.

if you can afford the Sony 35GM, its probably the best overall option.
Viltrox 35mm f1.2 seems to be the best bang for buck if you can put up with the weight and size

Sigma 35mm f2 is a work of art, beautifully made and nice to use.
new sigma 35mm f1.2ii is probably the best f1.2 option if you really want/need that f1.2 like me :D

If you want or need the f/1.4 and performance, bite the bullet, dip into the extra savings a touch, and get the 35GM.

I remember looking at the Sigma 35/2 but I just knew I would at some point regret it, want the GM and it would end up costing me even more in the long run. Buy properly, buy once.

Many thanks, am I right in thinking it’s the sigma f1.2 that’s got that amazing 3d pop to the images? I’ve heard it’s heavy but I’m mainly a tripod shooter anyway so it’s not too much of an issue. Plus I do have a thing for wonderful bokeh lol.
