The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

With uk pricing vs grey im not sure where this lens will fit in.
Pricing hasn’t been released from what I saw but the current f2 version is between 550-650 in the uk( grey seems to be harder with sigma glass) so I would expect that this will be more, you can pick up a 1.4g for just over £700 grey now.
I’m not sure a smaller lens would sway most in that regards.

I see the Viltrox 35 1.4pro just about to be officially announced. The past two seem to have had mixed reviews and it does look to be another bigger chunk lens but will likely be significantly cheaper than anything like it especially if bought grey.

It does look pretty nice. I'm sure you'd get used to it, but the focus ring right at the very front like that!!?! I guess it's just what you are used to :)
I do wonder if it would be awkward with the hood on.

The Hood wouldn't be much wider than the end of the lens given the field of view but you could be right.

Ok found some examples - close range at f.18 on the xmas tree, basically worst case scenario for softness and glow. then this is mostly a people lens for me and I don't tend to put people online - so here's a crop @100% of just an eye. It's wide open at 1.4 and partly missed focus slightly in front of the eye.

Nothing wrong with those.

They look very soft to me, but of course we know how this site can render photos so I never use photos on this site as guide to sharpness (y)

The tree one looks ok to me but the eye one is a bit soft on the lashes assuming that's about where the focus is and not on the eye which is clearly out of the depth. I think I'd be ok with that as a whole picture and very probably at 100% too remembering it's at f1.4 and the focus has missed a bit.

Anyway. I'll wait until the new lens comes out and see what the reviews say. I said above I'll look at IQ and bokeh but focus is going to be something to think about too as the rumor guy does say that the system is older tech to save space. I suppose I don't need lightening fast focus but if it is noticeably slower than other lens that's bound to trigger my ocd a bit no matter how much I try not to notice or care.
