...was the Phil Silvers Show of course! Sgt Bilko's weekly scheming always had me chuckling. A few years back the esteemed readers of Radio Times agreed, naming their top 10 as:

1 The Phil Silvers Show (US)
2 Seinfeld (US)
3 Fawlty Towers (UK)
4 Porridge (UK)
5 Yes, Minister (UK)
6 Frasier ( US)
7 M*A*S*H (US)
8 Till Death Us Do Part (UK)
9 Hancock's Half-Hour/ Hancock (UK)
10 Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads? (UK)

The combination of Phil Silvers' brilliant acting and timing, awesome cast and fantastic scripts made for the perfect comedy.

Any of you agree? If not, what would get your vote?

As above but would add these to a list too, in no particular order.

Only Fools
Men behaving
Dad's Army
Cheers
Soap
Morecambe & Wise (The Andre Preview sketch has me in tears everytime)
Two Ronnies
Bottom
Young ones
Vicar of Dibley
Simpsons
American Dad
Family Guy
Police squad
Minder (just about falls into the category for me)

My list would be . . .

1) The Goodies.
2) Bottom.
3) The Young Ones.
4) Shooting Stars (yes, it is very silly and surreal but actually makes me giggle).
5) The Simpspons.
6) Red Dwarf.
7) Laurel and Hardy (nearly a hundred years old and it still makes me laugh).
8) Men Behaving Badly.
9) Dear John.
10) Only Fools And Horses.

I forgot Laurel & Hardy, good spot although strictly speaking it wasn't really telly.

Only Fools and Horses can't be beaten. The Office/US Office I really like too.

Mine would be... (in no particular order)

Bottom
Fawlty Towers
Mock the Week
Only fools and horses
QI (not sure it qualifies as comedy but makes me laugh)
Monty Python’s Flying Circus
A bit of Fry and Laurie
8 out of 10 cats
The Office
Outnumbered
The Royle Family
Some mother do 'ave 'um
Top Gear (potentially a controversial choice but the road trips have me in stitches)

A few more (some slightly more obscure, but funny)...

Steptoe and Son
Phoenix Nights
The Thick of it
Rising Damp
The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin
Private Schulz
The Life and Loves of a She Devil
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
Porridge
Outnumbered

Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em
Dick Emery
The Muppet Show
NTNON
Ab Fab ( I 'spose)
The Comedians (my earliest memory of comedy on the telly)

Outnumbered
Alan Partridge
Rise and Fall of Reginald Perrin (original)
Just Good Friends
Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy
Some Mothers Do 'ave 'em
Two Ronnies
Porridge
Fawltey Towers
The Royale Family
Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps

Wow.. No Shameless fans then ? :)

Fo a fe (the first comedy show I can remember as a child).
Monty Python.
Peter Cook & Dudley Moore.
Two Ronnies.
Anything Ronnie Barker.
Some Mothers do 'av em.
It ain't half hot mum.
In sickness and in health / Till death do us part.
Father Ted.
Fast Show.
The league of gentlemen.
Anything Merchant/Gervais.

There are to many and I've probably missed lots out...

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Curb your enthusiasm.

Sure, only fools and horses, porridge, simpsons, red dwarf etc etc .... they are all great.

But nothing is better than Curb Your Enthusiasm
