The compact camera picture thread!

I've recently inherited another couple of small compacts that I don't really know what to do with.

Plus I bought one for my daughter to go travelling, before I got the other two.

Inherited:

A Fuji Finepix Z90 - this is the one my daughter ended up taking away with her as it's very slim.

14MP 5x optical zoom.

A Nikon Coolpix 3200

This is a 3.2MP, 3x Optical camera.

Again, quite small, but not that thin.

And finally the one I actually bought for her to go travelling:

A Sony Cybershot DSC-P10

maxresdefault.jpg

Almost everyone I know had one of these in the mid noughties. Though I have to say, I'm pleased I got my Pentax instead as when we went on holiday with another couple who had a version of this, my pictures looked way better straight out of camera.

Again, not really tried it, but because I bought it for her to go travelling I bought two new 1GB memory sticks, so I'm quite invested in it to some degree, so might carry it in my bag for a while to see if it's worth having.

Another one of those 'should have done my research' type things as I had not realised that the Sony takes memory sticks and not SD cards. Quite hard to come by and fairly pricy when you do. The two memory sticks were more than the camera.

PS - all of these photos are found photos.

A random collection from my 20mp Nikon point and shoot, unfortunately I seem to have lost this camera on my dog walk wanderings so am now looking for another cheap eBay point and shoot ( That will teach me to drop it into an open side pocket) The lens cover kept getting stuck anyway after one of my dog rammed it's nose into it at high speed !

I am currently selling two of the (very) old digital cameras in the POST above if you're at all interested.

A Sony Cyber Shot DSC P10 (5MB)
A Nikon Coolpix 3200 (3.2MB)

ETA: Now both sold...

I've only just seen this. Here are a few from my Contax TVS-D that I have as my 'car camera' for those shots that I usually miss by not having a camera handy when out and about.

"Fairfield Church (Kent)"

Just a simple Landscape type Snap captured at Fairfield Kent UK of the tiny St Thomas a Becket Church.

St Thomas à Becket Church in Fairfield stands alone in a field on the Marsh, surrounded by water courses and sheep. A causeway was built in 1913, and until then the church was more often than not surrounded by water during the winter and spring.
Fairfield, the village it once served has long since disappeared, but the church has survived and is now part of a parish which includes the villages of Brookland, Brenzett and Snargate. The church is dedicated to St Thomas à Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury from 1162 until his murder in 1170.

Legend has it that the Archbishop was journeying across the dangerous Romney Marsh, when he fell into one of the many ditches. He prayed to St.Thomas, as he came up for the second time, for a miracle to save him from a watery death. Just in time a farmer arrived to save him, and in gratitude the Archbishop had the little church built and dedicated to St Thomas a Becket.

Sometime around AD 1200 a simple structure of timber and lath construction was built as a purely temporary measure to provide the local farmers with a place of worship. Temporary became permanent, and the 13th century building survived intact until the 18th century, when the entire timber building was encased within brick walls, and the roof covered with heavy red tiles.

In 1912 the fabric was in a very poor state and a complete rebuilding within the timber framework took place. However, the inside of the church was, fortunately, left untouched. It is Georgian, with a three decker pulpit, box pews and texts boards. The pews are still painted white with black linings.

The interior is pure Georgian theatrics; entering the church is like stepping back into the 18th century. The interior is filled with rows of box pews, painted bright white, with a triple-decker pulpit rising over them and Biblical texts staring down from the walls.

Funny that this thread has been revived just when I was thinking about putting one of my compacts in my pocket again. Also funny that I can't see any of my pictures in this thread. If other people can see them I'm sorry if these are amongst them. These were all taken in 2006 with my Medion compact.

Taken in Scotland. I've printed this one to fill an A4 and it looks much better than I'd have thought.

Taken in Redcar. The colours are sometimes way off and I often attempt to correct them.

Taken in Whitby. I haven't tried to correct the colours here as I like them as they are. Nice bokeh :D

Another option is to convert to B&W. Whitby again.

I printed those two to each fill an A4 and they're framed and up on a wall. I didn't take these to do a panorama and only spotted the possibility years later and this is the result and I'm very happy with it.

Thanks for reviving this and I'll look forward to seeing any pictures people post, digital or film I think the only real requirement is that they're taken with a compact camera :D

Moving up in camera quality, Panasobic LX5. Taken in Kazakhstan in 2011. I met a Kazakh lady in Darlington although she was living in Belgium at the time. These were probably taken on my first trip to her home country. The ice on the RHS has formed due to a burst water pipe.

Taken on the flight home.

I nearly married her. Happy days.

I don't know if the Panasonic GF1 counts as a compact camera so I'll just post this once about it :D I was attracted to this camera because it's quite small and has a relatively large sensor being MFT. I tried to love this camera but the lack of a vf got to me as I really don't like holding a camera in front of my face and composing and focusing on the back screen. I made my mind up to move on when using it on a beach in Belgium as I could see something on the screen and just enough to compose the shot but that was it. I sold it and got the similar but evf equipped G1. The GF1 was quite expensive when it came out but it was the lack of a vf that ended it for me. The G1's evf was for me adequate in daylight but awful in low light as it failed to display detail clearly visible by eye and on the back screen and yet kicked out so much light it was uncomfortable to use.

Anyway. GF1 in Belgium. Evening picture. In reality it was probably a bit darker than it looks in this picture. GF1 and 20mm f1.7 at f1.7, 1/80, ISO 1,000.

With a decent vf I'd have loved that camera.

"Oyster Shells"

Just a simple tourist close up type Snap captured at Kent UK of a pile of Oyster Shells that have had the Oysters removed.
I've deliberately gone for a higher contrast gritty look to this snap to emphasise the texture.

Ace Pro2 - surprised me hugely how good RAW files are from it.

A 3-shot pano from Val Thorerns, using images taken in 2001 on my Canon Digital IXUS (a.k.a. PC1001 or Powershot S100 ELPH), which had a sensor with a whole 2.1 Mpx!

The camera is still a thing of beauty and the best-looking compact I have encountered, whilst being truly pocketable.

While I was out walkabout I came across this "Wall Of Fame" and figured it was worth a Snap.

While out on a walkabout today I found these "Spring Buds" growing in a hedgerow. I’m not sure what they are but I figured they were worth a Snap.
