It seems to me that it was inevitable.It is scary and annoying.
"Progression" is natural and inevitable, it probably started with simple manufacturing, and will never stop. Vast number of jobs are lost as a result, and prices fall to make just about everything that isn't hand-made using age old traditional methods both better and affordable.
This has its sad elements, but what really concerns me is the misuse of technology to mislead us - for example political posts intended to deceive the public.
The printing press was where it all started to go wrong. Hand written misinformation is much harder to circulate![]()
Aha! So you are the other person that read it. Some would argue the birth of cyberpunk was the Sprawl trilogy, but for me Brunner was the pioneer.John Brunner predicted this, with surprising accuracy, in his 1975 novel "The Shockwave Rider".
