Did you try taking the last one with a different aperture? F22 or so. That might have given you a star burst effect.

There's some decent free Lightroom presets out there that can do a similar job, I think OnOne do a bunch from memory, and the effects are labelled gritty.

a few brain cells, no dude not missing anything i added the f16 after i only uploaded the f2 initially, not sure the lens goes to f22

Two very nice shots Graham, #1 is probably my fav' by a very small margin, great comp, lovely sky, and an excellent mono conversion giving good full range of punch tones. #2 is also very nice, with some good light, great clarity, and spot on colour.

Travelling home on the 5th to see a firework display, One started while I was waiting for the train. It was better than the one I travelled home for.

It arrived at lunch time which was nice, the sun was shining so I thought I'd walk down to the canal to see what was about. As soon as I walked out the door the clouds moved in, took a few shots at high ISO, then the rain came down
Got back home and back to work, and the sun came out again!
