The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Sounds good, I'll definitely look into this (y)

Night-time tickets will definitely be available in May 2027.
May is right in the peak season for these exclusive evening openings, which happen every single Friday night throughout the month.

Crucial Booking Details
  • When tickets open: Official tickets generally go on sale 60 days in advance on the Vatican Museums Ticket Portal. For a trip in May 2027, you should look to book starting in March 2027.
  • Opening hours: The evening entry typically starts around 6:00 PM (18:00), with the museums remaining open until 10:00 PM (22:00).
  • High demand: May is one of the busiest tourism months in Rome. Night tickets sell out within minutes of being released.

What if you miss the official ticket window?
If you miss the 60-day release, standard tickets will likely be sold out. You can still gain entry by booking a guided evening tour through verified third-party platforms like Viator or GetYourGuide. These platforms hold independent ticket allocations for groups.

Crikey. We're going mid May which, whilst not quite as bad as July and August I'm expecting it to be very busy. We plan on doing the main touristy hot spots first thing in the morning and then in the evening, staying away during the day. Likewise the other places we're visiting.

I'm sure you will be fine, my experiencee is that planning and pre-booking tickets for star attractions in Rome (and Florence) is essential to avoid excessive queuing

I hope that San Gimignano is on your itinerary

Thanks for the tip, that’s a bit ‘concerning’ regarding the tickets, I best be on the ball. Unfortunately San Gimignano is not on the Agenda this time but there’s nothing to say we won’t do more of Italy at some other point as I’d like to do Matera as well.

I'm wondering if the 16-50mm I had was a duff copy as I've found some raw samples online and they're much better. Both of these are at 16mm f2.8

Edit: they look soft on here but they're not on my computer, however you should be able to see that they're way better than the copy I had.

The 27mm Viltrox F1.7 is on it 99% of the time. It came with the 16-50 which I’ve used twice.

I really need my favourite 23mm fov but the pancake is too slow and the 1.4s are too big. Even with the pancake fitted, I reckon the body is too thic
The pancake is only a stop slower than the X100VI isn't it?

Yep, but even with f2 you struggle to get any decent OOF areas and subject isolation so if that’s your thing then obviously f2.8’s not going to cut it.

In terms of size and form the X-E5 is much closer to the X100VI but it’s not weather sealed if that’s important.

I had a little wander round Hawkwell church yesterday afternoon, just to give the 18mm F/2 a test. I took the 27mm F/2.8 with me as well. The 18mm is a lot nicer to use, with the aperture ring. I think the 27mm might be going in the classifieds fairly soon, tbh...

Very nice.

And put it towards a 27 mm WR with the aperture ring lol

Just had a look at MPB and they're cheaper than I thought. Hmm, now you've got me thinking. I'm not sure which one I'd find more useful, I think I need to go out and spend a day with each and see how I get on...

First of a bunch of *ahem* holiday snaps :ROFLMAO:

Lake Las Vegas...The village just reminded me of the old Prisoner show, set in Port Merion. But everyone driving around in golf carts instead of mini mokes.

I snoozed and losed. Well actually I didn't know it was there but yeah, £500 for an XT3 suddenly looks quite compelling compared to Xt2 prices. I'm actually pondering whether I just hand down my XT4 if the XT6 gets a wriggle on being released. I doubt it's going to net me much trading it in. She's a beginner and I actually started with the assumption that I'd pick up something like an X-T20 for her which might suit her more with full auto mode etc. That was until I discovered that they're going for more than £300 as well. It's absolutely crazy how much these older cameras are selling for. What's the reason behind it all?
This is what I ended up doing when I started looking for a "cheap" Fuji camera for my son, I bought myself an X-H2s and let him use the X-T2.

Might well be what I do. I’ve been keeping an eye out for stuff but not in a rush. I id see that E-infinity have the x-t30iii with 13-33 lens for £770. Not exactly cheap but more appealing than spending £400+ on a ten year old camera + however much on a lens.

Well it would put me off personally but I think will be fine for my daughter to learn on. One bonus of the x-t xx cameras is that they have a proper full auto mode. I think that might useful for her to get up and running.

Don't all Fuji have full auto by turning the dials to A?

Wex have a bunch of open/roadshow days coming up, but no idea if any are close enough to you, of if they discount used gear.

They do, but IIRC the dedicated switch on the X-Txx series also changes the focus area, metering, face detect etc.
Ahh OK, so it's a one switch does all rather than having to set everything to auto yourself (y)

Yep, it's the equivalent of full green auto mode on other cameras rather than just exposure controls. There are many debates about whether this is a good or a bad thing to use when people are just getting started but my own opinion is that it's nice to be able to pick up a camera and just use it and learn what makes a nice photo before having to worry too much about the technicalities.

Yep there’s a number of different trains of thought. I always think it’s best to learn and understand manual exposure from the get go and then you understand the auto and semi auto modes better and can use them to your advantage. It always makes me laugh when people say to be a proper photographer you have to use manual mode all the time, if they want to make life harder than it needs to be that’s up them but I’m using aperture priority and auto ISO most of the time (y)

If you’ve not already I’d strongly recommend you daughter reads “Understanding Exposure” by Bryan Peterson, easy to read and makes a huge difference to your understanding and photography imo.

Usually if you have bought something from them in the previous year, they will send you an incentive voucher to get you to attend (as the voucher only works in store)

Last couple of years have been £50 off a £250+ spend

I spent £500 on medium format film a couple of years ago using two vouchers (mine and my wife’s) and effectively got a 20% discount, which was even better as Kodak Gold in 120 five packs was also in a promotion deal - discount applied after promotions :)

We have quite a big store in Norwich, so will pop along to see what's what etc. Doubt I'll get anything, but you never know haha

Dangerous shop in Norwich, on holiday last year and happened to venture in and left with a Leica Q3 43 and a suitable sized dent in my bank account - bloody impulse purchases…… :ROFLMAO:

Oops ;)
Last time I was in there, I looked at the Leica display and my knees buckled. It's a nice shop though. I might have a nose at the 70-300 .

The 70-300 is well worth looking at, possibly my most used lens as it's so portable and easy to use. I've got the 50-140 which feels so heavy by comparison and ends up only being used occasionally. Both take the 1.4tc.
I used to have the 100-400 (I think you had one) and really don't miss it's weight.
Worth breathing in mind if you've got knees that buckle!

The only way I can justify having Leica's is by not having very much of anything else!!!

I suspect it will be hard to beat the Fuji Refurbished Store price on the 70-300 (when they have it in stock)
