The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Well if you’d bought the right colour camera in the first place rather than the hipster one then it wouldn’t be a problem :ROFLMAO:
It's got to be shiny

I do sometimes think the X-Tx series look better in black, but the X100 is definitely prettier in Silver :p

My QL17 is silver. Sort of makes me glad the X100f is black :ROFLMAO:

They'd be too similar otherwise!

I must confess, I bought a black Vi because I had a black F and so it was easier to smuggle into the house...I then saw a silver version in Derby LCE and thought "Should have bought silver and payed for the divorce!" :D

X100 arrived yesterday. I've popped a couple of recipes on it, going to go out with it later. Feels very nice in my hand, and the AF is very fast indeed! First impressions positive :)

I had a very brief wander around Southend City Centre at the weekend with my X-T4 and the 18mm F/2:

Very nice, I saw some photos the same/very similar to this over the weekend, have you posted them elsewhere such as facebook?

What do you think of it?
I like it, but I'm glad I borrowed before buying. I was worried that it would make my X-T4 feel like some sort of behemoth, but actually I had a play with that last night too and it felt a lot more comfortable in my hand.

I think it's made me want an X-T5 even more than I did before, I love the colours on the newer sensor :)

And I think I'm going to keep my 18mm lens rather than look for a 23; there have been a few times where the X100 just wasn't quite wide enough...

The X100’s are bigger than you think they’re going to be IMO.

Interesting to hear your thoughts Kerry.

I know the XT and lens combo I have is definitely thicker than the X100, but there isn’t a lot of difference in the height.

Annoyingly, the Aer Sling I used with the X100 (and found comfortable) just won’t fit the XT5 in the same orientation. Without a lens on it is still thicker and the 18mm is thicker still.

They have got slightly bigger (and heavier) over generation, but not by much. They are a decent size though, samall enough to be unobtrusive , but large enough to get hold of. The body of the Sony RXR series is quite dinky though (espoecially for FF), and coming from that is probably why you feel the X100 series is unexpectedly large.

Thats what the WCL is for!

Size aside......that leaf shutter on the X100VI is sublime

The leaf shutter is fab, very pleasing sound and feel :)

I wasn’t complaining about the size at all: it’s quite a bit smaller than my X-T4, especially as I’ve got a grip on my camera. I think said before that if I bought one I’d quite probably put a grip on it to make it a bit deeper. I’d definitely go for the thumb grip that was receommended on the previous page.

Overall I missed being able to change the lens - the built in “telephoto” is useful (I used it for the plane shots above). One of the reasons I wanted to try it was for the planned trip to the Scilly Isles next year for my wife’s 50th. I’m definitely taking a camera with me, but she doesn’t want photography to take over every day, so I’m planning on just taking a pancake lens for an absolutely minimal setup. If I’m going to be putting the WCL on and off, I might as well just swap lenses - or just take a zoom.

None of this is a dig at the X100 or any owners - it’s a lovely thing, and if I won the lottery I’d have one as well as an X-T5, and and X-H2S :)

Interestingly, I’ve just been looking at X-T5s and quite a few places are showing them out of stock at the moment: I wonder if people are having a run on them in anticipation of the X-T6?

Sounds like the trial done its job then :)

It's great that it can help out in such a way without the risk of buying and selling and usually losing money!

To me, the X100f is a nice small camera but that's probably due to the other cameras I have to compare it to also. I don't think I'd advise you to buy one though just for a holiday seeing as you already have Fuji gear. I think just pick a single lens to take and deal with it.

Yep, the trial has been excellent. I wish a few more manufacturers would offer it!

And I totally agree about the holiday - I think I’ve got a plan now :)

The built in telephoto feature only affects the jpg - the raw comes out at 23mm and ignores the telephoto. Found that a bit odd myself unless I had a setting confuddled.

I wonder if MPB will give me a better quote due to no stock of new

Edit:
Quote the other day £725 body like new
Quote just now £795 body like new
16-50mm same price £295

Don't say take it all! :ROFLMAO:

I did take a variety to Cornwall last week. But I had no intention of carrying everything at the same time - I had set use and places for certain gear!

If I was going on my own I’d take my bigger bag and a few bits. I’m going to take the 18mm F/2, and I’ll pop my 16-80 in the bag too, in case I get a chance to go out on my own. Mostly though I’m planning on using my camera like a point & shoot, so that my wife doesn’t feel like her birthday treat was just a photography trip for me.

Alan I’ll give you £799 for it, and I’ll buy you a coffee when we meet up to do the deal ;)

To be honest, I've found using just a single camera to be very enjoyable :)

In Cornwall I shot mostly with the X100f :) I shot a 36 exp roll through the Canonet Ql17 which was also daytime stuff. I shoot 2 rolls in the Yashica Mat 124G which were a mixture of sunsets and some daytime scenes - the day at Mevagissey I only took the film cameras! And the A7Riii/35GM was just sunsets & probably produced the least amount of images.

I've always had my doubts & FOMO before, but I do think I could do a long weekend/holiday with just the X100f.

The RX1R II definitely was small, I couldn't hold it very well without a grip but then with the grip I kept catching the lens with my knuckles. The X100 is pretty much the perfect size for my ape hands

I'd guess Fuji are slowing down the production ready for the X-T6 release. I don't use the 'zoom' on the X100VI as it's extra buttons to press, I'll just crop in post. I did assign it to the focus ring but I found that it sometimes zoomed without my knowing.

Ditto, it's great not carrying heavy gear.
