Fuji do student discount if that’s available to you.I wonder if that would be off the sale price too. Fingers crossed I might be able to barter a bit .

If you want to get Canon or Nikon AF speed and surety (AF latch on) then you may wait a while. That’s why I will wait for the 6. Maybe a big big change (which I doubt) But if no significant change I will switch. Not sure canon or Sony yet. I like the menu on the canon but lens wise it’s better to have a Sony (but those menus ) I think that they are both good on auto focus. Color wise i will miss Fuji
AF of Sony and Canon are on a different level, especially on their higher end bodies. Nikon are good but still behind Sony and Canon. That’s why I will wait for the 6. Lee does have the knowhow when it comes to processing, his latest hot air balloon photos shot on the A7RIII are a fine example@MittyKitty There is a discussion going on about AF in the X-T6 thread on the Fuji-X forum.
From my investigations, if your photography means that you need lightning fast accurate AF with excellent super-sticky tracking, then there are better offerings out there from other manufacturers (Sony/Canon). Historically Fuji have only ever played catch-up with regard to AF, so whilst the X-T6 will be an improvement on the X-T5, I certainly wouldn't expect it to be class leading, or even equal to current Sony/Canon offerings. AF never makes up for bad technique, as I know from my motorsport panning shots!
Most of the time though, and for many genres of photography the Fuji AF is prefectly good.
There are plenty of reasons to stay in the Fuji eco-system, but if AF is the absolute priority then your money may be best spent elsewhere.
With regard to colour, all the manufacturers emply their own colour science, but with some post processing work using the Raw files, you can go a long way to emulating a similar look and feel with different camera system. @LeeRatters plants his style on his images and manages to make his shots consistent regardless of whether they were shot on Fuji or Sony. James Popsys (youtuber) also manages it and he uses a range of cameras (Panasonic, Sony, Fuji, Hasselblad)
The Fuji film simulations do make it easy to have a known starting point, but if you dig deep enough you will find that different generation of Fuji lenses render colour differently (and indeed so do different versions of the X-Trans sensor)
The grass isn't always greener on the other side, but it almost certainly will be different.
I've been in the Fuji X-System for a long time (14 years), and although my main day to day camera is a Leica, I still shoot motorsport (and car events) with an X-series camera, I accept that the AF isn't the fastest, but the £££ v performance ratio (and weight for long lens reach) means that with pre-loved gear I can afford to have a dedicated 'motorsport' setup (X-H2S, 100-400 and 50-140). The Leica's AF is nothing to write home about but its perfectly fine for me.

A few from my recent PBWA trips... some of these are from the X-T5 I borrowed, most are my X-T4. A lot of them are the 35/1.4, I may have mentioned before that I bloody love that lens!

Another fan of the 70-300 mine is nice and sharp and its light enough for me to take it when I go out.Thoughts on the 70-300...
After moving on my 100-400 due to the weight. I'm kinda hankering for something longer, and the 70-300 seems to fit the bill being nice and light etc. I'm going to my local wex open day on Friday, so hopefully will be able to check one out.
I just wondered if any of you guys had any experience with one.

I’ve spent far far more than a fair amount of time and I’m still not settledThank you both for your very kind wordsAppreciated.
I have spent a fair bit of time getting my images to be generally pretty consistent![]()
Looking at this photo on a monitor rather than a phone, I am very taken with how sharp it is. I am also interested in the exposure - particularly the underneath of the car/tyre treads.
Have you applied sharpening or is this the lens @Mr Perceptive ?
Did you lift the shadows for the wheels/tyres?My LR Fuji Import profile reduces sharpening on import, I may have applied a little texture (but if I have it’s not much), the rest is down to the lens, post #79362 is with the same lens and the first image of the Porsche 962 is nice and crisp as well.
I’ve always found the 50-140 to play nicely with IBIS, but remember I’m only on a26MP sensor, the 50-140 may not play as nicely on the 40MP and the fact that the rumour mill suggests that there is a replacement coming, suggests that Fuji might think the same.

I did notice the grain yeahPick one and stick with it!
I often shoot/edit from a day out or location, village etc in one style, as if I've put a roll of film in there and it is what it is. Sometimes they all look really good, sometimes the odd image in the set doesn't look perfect..... but it is what it is. I just put up with it. The Sony balloon images were the same - one click, maybe a crop/level or exposure tweak but certainly no additional HSL, colour grading, etc for individual images.
And, did you click into them and see the amount of "grain" I added.....? And obviously detail lost! Who would have thought the 35GM could be so unsharp![]()
I did notice the grain yeah
I did have a preset I used for everything, I called it true to life and because of this it worked across the board.
However, I’ve wanted the film look for a long time and I haven’t nailed the look I want yet. I’ve come to the conclusion I want something based around classic negative but with more teal, warmer greens and less orange in the higher tones.
I thought I’d done it but then I applied it to my Donington paddock photos and it didn’t work![]()
Tbh I assumed the Fuji Kodak Porta 400 recipe used classic neg as a starting point but I’ve just looked and it’s classic chromeI have zero experience with Classic Neg![]()
