Do we have a general English football chat thread ?

With the Premier League hotting up and the FA Cup kicking off I wondered if there was anything on the go for general footy chat ?

premiership is for rich moneygrabbing business from around the world who treat fans as money cows... they see them as pound signs not fans... the players arnt much better.. if not worse.. premiership is killing football in this country..

and my teams out the fa cup...

so for those reasons I am out :)

I'm with Kipax quite happy to have a proper football thread as long as we can steer clear of the arrogant money grabbing leeches that inhabit the top tier of the game.Anybody wants to talk non league especially suits me

I hate football in all its forms, load of blokes running around in shorts who can't kick a ball if the grass is a few millimetres too long. Definately don't want any thread on a photographic site on this subject. We have it thrust on us in the newspapers on TV on the news so please please keep it off here.

my clubs been in the football league for about 5 yrs now... some people hate it so much they have turned to other equaly local none league teams... if we got relegated not everyone would be crying into there cornflakes...

a non league team strives to get into the football league.. but you get there and the change is massive.. really spoils the whole football experience... everything.. stewards, segregation, rules and more rules and then rules on top of those.. the whole commercialisation of league football even at div 2 level hits you like a brick

maybe i am just old school i dunno....

Totally agree with what is said above, and my team is also out of the cup, hammered by a non league side would you believe :bang:

Well my team got knocked out of the FA Cup yesterday, 3-1 ;)

Guess the team...

The first thing I would like to say is that football is no longer a sport it is a big business, along with many other so called 'sports', but this is a football thread.

The last time I went to a football match was the 2010 Emirates Cup. I went because it was my first ever visit to the Emirates.

I went with my grandson, granddaughter, step son and daughter-in-law, so it was a family day out and I thoroughly enjoyed it and now I have been I am happy and have no desire to go back.

In the 70's I went to all Arsenal's home and away matches for about 6-8 seasons, but now I go and watch/photograph my local semi-pro rugby team.

As for the FA Cup, what pee's me off is all the pimps and ponces who get tickets every year for the final. There is Wembly with 90,000 seats so the tickets should go to the clubs in the final, 45,000 each. I could go to the cup final every year, because I know someone who works at the FA and my step-son runs a local football team and he gets 2 tickets every year for the final....Why?.

Thanks in advance for reading.

Hi Bazza

I remember the World Cup thread generated just as many anti football posts as it did football posts - so much so that a new thread had to be opened just for those who hate the game.

Non Photography - It's what the 'out of focus' forum is for isn't it ?

The first thing I would like to say is that football is no longer a sport it is a big business, .

sorry but thats a sweeping statment and absoloute rubish...football is certainly not big business to millions of players and thousands of clubs...in this country alone.. the 92 clubs that make up the premiership and football league yes.. even some conference... but its not big business to the majority of clubs and players from junior levels to womens and girls to pub leagues and lower leagues..

bit of a sweeping statement to say football is not longer a sport mate..maybe you where thinking somehting other than you posted? :)

I guess the answer to your question is no.

Too many clowns with no real interest just want to spoil it for those that do have an interest in it!

Shame they just don't pass by with their mouths shut!

The problem with the FA Cup final is the way tickets are allocated. This is taken from the Beeb regarding the 2007 final

The Football Association has explained its allocation of FA Cup final tickets. Finalists Chelsea and Manchester United have each been given 25,000 tickets, with a further 17,000 seats taken by Club Wembley members on 10-year leases.

The remaining 23,000 tickets will go to other clubs alongside grass roots and other football organisations. A spokesman said: "The final belongs to the whole country, it's also a chance to reward the thousands who give up their time and energy to football."

The 23,000 tickets go to groups the FA calls "the football family", which include the 92 professional football clubs, 134 full member clubs, Uefa, Fifa and county and international football associations.

Chelsea and Manchester United's own sponsors will be given tickets from the club's allocation, meaning not all of their 25,000 tickets will be available to fans.

Madness. Why do FIFA, UEFA, the other 90 league clubs get tickets for the final????? Also when the club sponsors, box owners etc all want a wedge of tickets for family etc, these are taken away from the 25,000 allocation. The normal supporters probably lose 3000 tickets at a guess.

So all these people who are buying into the top clubs, are long standing loyal supporters who have followed the club through thick and thin and know the clubs history like the ordinary everyday true club supporter....NO! they are there to make money, the same as Alan Sugar wanted to do with Tottenham, he even admitted he didn't know the difference between a football and egg. He got his fingers burnt.

These people are business men and they only buy into clubs for one thing 'to make money' and not for the love of the club.

Agree 100% Adam. (y) Then you get the scumbag ticket touts and players who sell their tickets.

Bet that wasn't cheap

We'll I'm a Man Utd fan and have been since 1976 although I don't get to as many games as I used to since moving up to Scotland.

Can't say I particularly like the way football has gone over the last 20 despite the fact that we've done really well.

Not just you, trust me! The impact IS massive and, when handled badly by the club (as it has been with ours) it disenfranchises fans faster than Luke Rodgers sends a ball over the bar from the penalty spot.

Sadly, the way we are going at the moment, it's not something we'll have to worry about next year! :(

I completely agree. Too many people on this forum love to stick their nose in where, often by their own admission, they have no knowledge or interest. Why

It's like the pc v mac debates which attract mac-bashers who have never used one.

If you could provide us with a list of any other subjects you dislike or have no interest, that would be great. That should help us work out which threads we shouldn't allow in the non photographic section of this photographic site.

Or just dont read or post on this thread?

My team is still in the FA Cup :clap::clap:

They're still in the Carling Cup too :clap::clap:

They're going to get relegated :crying: :crying: :crying:

I'm an avid non league supporter. My local side is Kingstonian, I've watched them for the last couple of years after more or less giving up on the premiership, and this year I've become their official tog too.

So far this season, I've covered 26 matches in all weathers. Travelled to some absolutely atrocious grounds and watched frankly terrible games where crowd numbers have sometimes dipped below 250 people.

And would I change it?

Well, apart from the terrible football, no.

Agree, been 3 times this year and its no longer what i fell in love with.

Oh, i am also a supporter from the 70's and 80's. Never missed a home game rain or shine, probably stood next to each other in the North Bank.

Sometimes I could be found in the Clock end ;)

Quite. I even remember a feature on BBC North West tonight where a Stockport player was interviewed in a 'day in the life of' style.. he lived in an average house, with an average (but lovely all the same) lady, drove an average car. I remember his lady saying she always had people coming up to her asking what it was like to be a 'wag' but she had to explain he earned no more than your average labourer and that even they were always looking for the next bill through the letter box with anxiety.

:)

I'm wondering what the gap is between the average wage of the Stevenage players versus the Newcastle players yesterday.

Isn't that like asking what the difference in salary is between The cook in the local greasy spoon and Gordon Ramsay and his like?

It's irrelevant, just because a football player is paid x amount every week doesn't mean he's going to play to that standard every week.

Wasn't my point. I was referring to Phils comment about the assumptions about pro footballers' wagyes.

Phil's comments are out of context to a degree though, as even players at places like Stockport will be on reasonable money now!

The whole game has moved on hugely since the Premier League was formed and regardless of whether it's right or wrong, it has trickled down through the leagues.

I'm not sure the OP had this kind of thread in mind when he started it, I think he was hoping for a more discussionary thread about the goings on rather than the hatred moaning about players salaries!

You're absolutely right Dave but I think that Phil's post was a response to those that assumed that all players in the football leagues and paid obscene salaries.

Man Utd V Liverpool.........

Thought the penalty was a 'iffy' but the sending off was right.

Nice to see Kenny back for you guys - somehow it felt like we were playing 'Liverpool' again....

What chance have referee's got

ITV No Penalty Yes a sending off

Talk Sport Yes Penaty Not a sending off

All agreed that Agger was a pillock for the tackle and that Berbatov went down like a Jessie

10 mins of injury time in the Blackpool v Man Utd game :puke:

Fantastic game though so far.

So the window closes tomorrow and it looks like it could be a very exciting day.

Torres > Chelsea?

If it happens I can see Liverpool pushing through a deal for Adams and there's rumours flying around that they'll bid for Young too.

Tottenham have had bids turned down for, wait for it, Aguero/Llorente/Rossi and another striker. Seems 'Arrys upto his old last day tricks again. They won't get Aguero or Llorente unless they go >£50m. Agueros signed a new contract in the last month, and Bilbaos presidents up for re-election this summer - selling Llorente would almost ensure he won't get re-elected. Selling your prize asset on deadline day wouldn't be so wise.

My team, Blackburn, seem to be bringing in two players. Formica - a highly rated Argentinian 'No 10' seems to be coming, all that remains is getting his Italian passport renewed and putting the paperwork through. Seriously excited with it, he's very highly thought of and he's exactly what we need in the middle - a quick, young and intelligent playmaker who can supply Kalanic/Santa Cruz with the ammo. The other kid is a young striker @ Barca, Rochina. Rated, but with their striking options he has no chance of breaking through anytime soon. At 19 it's time he moved on.

Carroll for £35m is a go. Currently at Newcastle Airport awaiting a private jet.

The world, or football world, has officially gone insane.

He'll be the 8th most expensive transfer EVER tonight. Utter madness.

I think it will be more than £35M.

He's just put in his transfer request and it's been accepted - should speed it all up a bit for Newcastle's sake (Carlton Cole??) and the Torres deal can go through.
