The most expensive lens in the world?

My mistake, £70,000?! does anyone know anyone who owns one?

Canon 1200mm f5.6 L

OUCH !

Canons most powerful supertelephoto lens. Prices may vary due to the unique nature of this lens. Delivery times on this lens also fluctuate as they are made to order.

:agree: oh yes indeed

add to basket hmmm, maybe not :LOL::LOL:

Sports Illustrated have 2 in their pool.

It was a special order only piece which is no longer available due to the materials used being banned on health grounds

I like the description for the sigma -

Internal Focusing and Internal Zooming

Focusing and zooming do not change the lens' overall length, ensuring it's easy of use either handheld or on a tripod.

easy of use eiter handheld? It weighs 15.7 KG...... lol... sigma engineers must go to the gym a lot....

1200mm pffft how about the 5200mm mirror lens!

Ok, so before I put my name down for the Canon 1200 (as if!) can anyone explain in laymans terms quite how much zoom that is and what you would use it for - for example, how far away would a postcard be an still fill the frame? Or how far away from a person would you have to be to get them in the frame standing up?

Don't want to waste my money if it don't do what i need, lol

Yes, but not with a 15.7kg lens.

No, but it was with the 600mm f/4, which weighs nearly 5.5kg. . .

Edit:add the 1DM3 on top, and he's handholding 6.5kg shooting 600mm at 1/80s to 1/125s. . .

wow, quite a lot, even for a Leica f/1.2 lens!

I don't understand how it can be used for wildlife - it can't be very manouverable!
I think you have to set it up then wait for the wildlife to evolve around you!

The zeiss ends it really..
Although its not that long because it is designed for medium format cameras, its still probably the most expensive civilian lens.

"No price has been published, but Zeiss hinted at a price of at least several million Euros.

This was the lens I was thinking of when I saw the thread title.

I think it was built to order for someone in one of the arab states?
