I know the Lowepro ones seem to be the default choice, but no-one seems to stock them any more, any other suggestions?

TBH, I just use normal gloves and flick them off should the need arise, rather than flicking myself off............

I've always hated gloves when trying to do anything. like the fingerless ones, but it's inevitably my fingers that get cold so I don't really find them that useful.

Get a pair of handwarmers, the charcoal type ones. One for each pocket.

Or get four and keep your nuts warm as well..........

I use the Lowepro ones which are mitten type and the tops fold back and leave you with half finder gloves. Only issue is that they arent waterproof. They are warm and easy to fold back quickly when required.

I use golfers winter gloves, they are thin enough to feel what you are doing and the finger tips are small enough that you only press one button at a time. They are not going to keep your hands warm enough to play snowballs with but they do keep the chill out and you can put ordinary gloves over them.

Me too, worked quite well in the severe cold snaps last winter.

Kept my mits warm but still didn't improve the quality of the images though!

Of course not. When it's that cold I always leave the lens in the bag.

In fact I often leave the body at home in a dry warm place.

I swear by very thin but warm cycling gloves.

They're like a second skin, give you a huge amount of feel so no grappling around trying to press the right button on the camera and if its extremeley cold you can easily wear fingerless gloves over the top of them, stops the ends of your fingers freezing off as normally happens.

I use Sealskins for hiking but find them slightly unwealdy when using the camera - I always carry a pair of thermal liner gloves with me too which are perfect to use with the camera

I have a pair of the Lowepro ones and don't rate them too highly. They seem massively overpriced to me.

If you go to outdoor shops (eg Cotswold) you will find a whole range of "technical" gloves with "sticky" palms and outrageous price tags, which in theory should be suitable for photographers. Try them though, and some of them are not that sticky at all.

Pay £50 for a pair of gloves? No way....guaranteed to lose them.

I eventually found some very similar to the Lowepro's which cost £1.99 a pair.
Slightly thinner and don't reach quite as far up the wrist. And they don't have a trigger finger slot or say Lowepro on the back.

But at that price.....

They were from an outdoor shop in Ashbourne, Derbyshire by the way.....

The missus bought me some sealskinz gloves, the largest size available, they were too small for me, so she ended up wearing them. I do have large hands though.

Do they need to cover your whole hand? I prefer to use gloves which leave the tips of my fingers bare. I have 2 solutions depending on how cold it is.

If it's not too cold I wear a pair of rugby grip mitts and if it's freezing I wear a pair of gloves I got from Celtic Sheepskin. They are very very warm. Not cheap but they last. I've had mine for 3 years and they look the same a they did when I got them.

I'm with Disphotic, there are various types, fingerless or full fingered neoprene. The neoprene ones are great, very thin but very warm and dry.

I've got a pair of Lowe Alpine convert mitten gloves and can recommend them - easy to flip the covers back and they're held there by velcro.
