The Prostate Cancer club

Finally, suppose I shouldn't complain as yes its been 6 weeks and the meetings are on mondays, of course Christmas Day, New Years day are both mondays and then the last doctors strike was ending on a monday. Anyway, they have "told" me that active monitoring is the way to go, feels a bit final, I have to admit Im not very comfortable with the watch and wait plan so they're gonna send me an appointment to discuss.

Apart from an ALL CLEAR then your on the best possible result anyone could hope for.. you can be on the watch list for many many years

If your on facebook theres a group only people with prostate cancer s can join and theres loads in your position https://www.facebook.com/groups/liviingwithpc

I know, but as a nurse of about 30 years, cancer's been a companion of sorts for some time. I've sent a FB join request to the group. (y)

I see you managed it then .. It can be a bit overwhelming at first.. All those people all with prostate cancer and all with an opinion... But for me it made me feel good to be amongst so many going through the same thing

Feeling positive and the most confident I have felt since the start about a year ago..

I had my first bloods done one month after Radiotherapy and got a PSA 0.05 "Virtually undetectable"

6 months later (today) and my bloods return a PSA 0.05 again

Today I feel more confident than I have since last Christmas when it all started.. I know it's a long way from over and I know things could change.. But I couldn't have hoped for better scores so

Fantastic to hear (y)

I've got BPH and when the time comes for me to be treated (it will), I'll hope to be offered the same as him.

Has anyone read this thread and thought about getting checked?

Yes, before you started the thread and other than what the King has post #87 (I knew I was special) though I was not offered the treatments mentioned........being monitored and next PSA is due in early March.

It was suggested that I consider medication that will give me man boobs (without looking at the letter again I cannot recall the condition name or the medication IIRC it suppresses Testosterone production, hence the physiological effect).

PS though I have not seen BPH mentioned as @Peter123 says in post #88 ???

That'll be gynaecomastia (man boobs) seen it twice as a nurse, once in a middle aged man (when I was a young nurse) and once about 2 months ago in a 4 day old baby! Hormones eh?

Yep, that was the word in the letter.
I was sure when I saw the Urology specialist she referred to it as being a hormone therapy but when I said hormone treatment when discussing it with my GP she said 'no not hormone but medicine that supresses Testosterone'. However, I have declined it (for now?) as my PSA and other tests (ultrasound & MRI and DRE) do not indicate anything sinister.

My brother had prostate cancer and was on the female hormone for 2 years, also a much shorter time on radiotherapy.
He developed man boobs and had hot flushes.
Thankfully he is clear now.

I have an annual PSA test. I have to remind the GP each year.

good news.. at the peak i had over 20 hot flushes a day.. now its maybe one or two a couple of days a week.. man boobs are just same as if you drink too much to be fair
