I came across the following site recently "The SLR Camera Simulator".

http://camerasim.com/camera-simulator/

Being new to dslr it looked quite a good tool for learning.
I have had a go with the settings trying to get a good picture in "Dim Indoors" and have failed!. Please can you experts show/tell me how it's done.

That's fun! Problem is the set-up doesn't allow flash, which you'd need for 'dim indoors' (or a wider aperture, or higher ISO) and a moving subject. So there is no way to get a decent shot with the available settings. You have to increase the light - which is actually a good lesson. It teaches that sometimes it's just not worth hitting the shutter.

Edit to add: Says here: Purchase CameraSim for Windows/Mac

"Please pay what you feel CameraSim is worth based on the value it will give to you. Your generosity is directly funding the next version of CameraSim."

So presumably, if you think it's worthless, you don't pay. Though it looks to be a pretty useful tool.

there's also no "give girl a clip round the ear if she doesnt stand still" button :)

I wanted to use a reflector to get rid of some of that shadow on the left side of her face. Can't but help wonder if I'm seeing more shadow than there is due to my monitor?

Good fun but does have its flaws,no wider aperture than F2.8 for dim indoor, plus it would be a nice idea,to be able to pick diffrents cameras,to check IQ at higher iso :)
