The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Yup all with it. Very nice lens for it value and lightness

Think I did ask before??

What flash people using pls

Go with the godox setup, x1ts transmitter and pick whatever you want for the flash from the speedlights to the studio head flashes and options in between. All can be hss and ttl if required.

The combination of A7 plus 28-70mm is getting a teeny bit on the over large size for me and I'm not a great zoom user but it is a nice lens and for anyone who likes the 28-70mm range I think that that lens and a wide aperture prime could be all they'd need for 90%+ :D

That's tiny..... this is large lol

Think a 90mm macro lens on my list next. Miss taking macro images

Also would having a faster memory card make writing and buffer quicker than standard ones?

Can't see the memory buffer issue (mainly on R2) being sorted until the next gen cameras.

Sony (I think) are at the forefront in two different fast card types, XQD as used in the new Nikon's, and UFS cards which are about the size of MicroSD but 5x the speed. Pretty sure I read Sony have developed a reader for UFS that also reads MicroSD. This could potentially create a very small dual card system, possibly ideal for A7 size cameras?

Although I guess the rumoured A9 will use XQD as it supposed to be larger.

That 50mm macro is a surprise :D but I've often wondered what use a 50mm macro is on full frame... I'd imagine it's pretty useless for live subjects and 50mm on FF would even be a bit problematic for flower shots for me. You have to get too close, shadows may be a problem and all in all it can be a bit of a PITA. I think It'd be best used as a close focusing standard lens for everyday use with occasional close up use. I find 50mm a bit tight these days as a day out and holiday choice but the advantage of being able to snap close ups too could tip the balance if the f2.8 is liveable. I think it is, just :D and I'm sure this lens will find fans and buyers. I might even be tempted.

Anyone else tempted?

I'm not tempted as I'm too obsessed with the GM series and how it's going to evolve, saying that I've still yet to sell off my non-GM lenses  lol
I'm thinking about the FE 90mm f2.8 G OSS to add to the collection!

When I had DSLR's I liked my Sigma 150mm f2.8 but truth be told it was a big fat lump and pretty specialist. I use an old 50mm f2.8 on MFT and I always wish it had a little more reach so I don't think I'd be too happy with a 90mm macro.

For daily stuff I'm much happier in the 28-50mm range with occasional forays to 85 and 135mm but I could well be interested in this new lens as when I'm out I don't seem to be able to pass a flower without wanting to take a shot and the 35mm is a bit too wide for this and the 55mm frustrates a little with it's lack of close focus ability. A 50mm f2.8 could come in quite useful for days out and holidays but I'll have to think about it as there's always the possibility of shooting with the 35 or 55mm and cropping to suit.

If you're waiting for the much rumoured A9 didn't someone say somewhere that Sony may skip the next show and announce anything significant later?

This is the sort of thing that frustrates me with the 35mm f2.8, you can't fill the frame with a little flower... a 50mm macro would help.

Probably the ideal lens to take pictures of your dinner. With the popularity of Instagram, Sony must be after iPhone up-graders :)

Joking aside, probably great for product photography. I'll be interested to see reviews and sample images

At the 1:1 distance of 6" or so (in old money) the end of the lens will be touching the subject (well... nearly...) so I can't see this being used too often for 1:1 photography but for me for flower shots and stuff like watch and jewellery shots and occasionally copying documents or film photos this lens is a possibility but there's the issue of shading the small subjects with a relatively short focal length and being so close to the subject. This can make the difference between a natural light well lit shot and being at ISO 1600 with a shaded lifeless subject and deciding not to bother.

I'm still a bit interested though :D

Years ago I had a Canon 50mm f2.5, it wasn't a true macro but it was a nice lens although the focus was too slow by todays standards. This new FE 50mm could be a good modern alternative to that Canon lens for me. I'll have to wait for reviews etc.

I wouldn't be shooting macro as such, not 1:1 at 6 inches, but the lens would possibly be perfectly ok for me as a close focusing 50mm for everyday use including close up shots of flowers or other interesting stuff such as your dinner.

As I said, I can't really see too many people shooting 1:1 with this lens (but I may be wrong) for reasons of distance to subject, lighting/shade and maybe perspective too and all of these could potentially affect me and my flower shots but hey-ho, I'm still interested in this lens as an everyday, day out and holiday walkabout.

It could tempt me but I'll need to know more. It's disappointing that it doesn't focus internally and it looks rather like the old Canon 50mm f2.5 I used to have which was rather slow to focus. Even if it is like that Canon for leisurely stuff when speed isn't a priority it could be a very handy lens.

Thinking of selling my A711 and getting the 6300 to go with my R2........... Good move or not?

I think having an even smaller and even less obtrusive camera is nice. I have my A7 and a few MFT cameras one of which, the GX7, is RF style and a little smaller than the A7.

I've been told it's a misprice as I have just spoken to them to confirm.
Unfortunately Sony adopt very strict dealer margins limits and any dealers selling products below the set limits has to be authorised by Sony first.

Having said the above they have the FE 85mm f1.4 GM at a cheaper price too so perhaps they have somehow managed to reduce the prices, find it very strange seen as the prices have gone up and they are selling them cheaper than the original prices!

Get them bought folks! Lol

Prices now back to normal, as suspected a clerical error.
