Was it just me or was the show put on by the Rolling Stones a bit of anti-climax? Maybe I was expecting too much from them,but I thought they were lame.They banged out the hits alright,yet it was if they failed to light the touch paper.
 
I thought they were good and perhaps a bit of history.

I watched it on TV and would have given my right nut to have been there live.

Perception is how each of us will "grade" the performance. I have followed them from the time they really got under way and have seen them live 6 times kn different tours.

Given their age I wish I had their energy and they are over 10 years olfrr than me!
 
I saw them on TV and was disappointed too. It seemed more pose than performance.

But some of that could have been the TV production. Last year I saw The Beach Boys live at The Albert Hall - same old pensionable age - and it was one of the best live gigs I've ever seen!

Then again the Stones could have been much worse. Think Paul McCartney or poor old Chuck Berry who still goes on stage in his 80s and just can't do it any more!

wasn't the BBC's fault, Mick Jaggers original comment was "he had signed to do a festival not a tv show" and they could show 4 songs, this was negotiated up to the hr we got.

Having watched the coverage all weekend, I think its safe to say that wasn't the bbc's footage, i'd put my mortgage on there being a DVD to follow and that was the stones own footage;),

On the performance that's what you get with the stones, I've seen them a couple of times, but refuse to pay the prices they are asking for tickets now :(
 
Unlike many other bands of their era the Stones have never evolved and as a result they look like old men who should know better prancing around like they did in the 60's.
Musically they are still good but visually I'm afraid they are well past the sell by date

You would think with all their money they'd be happy to show it all live... Bet the DVD will cost a small fortune too!

I'd love to go and see them live but I just can't afford it.

Until quite recently the Stones had refused the BBC any coverage what so ever. I don't think the coverage was to blame at all ,the set was cr'p.

Seasick Steve on Friday was a real entertainer.

I know what you meant I too hate the current manufactured boy band simon Cowell thing
But the are really good new bands out there playing every week just not getting the break

There are plenty of good original bands around now, Mumford and Sons or Kasabian spring to mind.
I saw the Stones live at one of the first 'stadium' concerts, in 1982 at St James Park - they seemed a but carp and past it then too, but their songs have stood the test of time well, and the band now has respected icon status.
I thought Mick still just about pulled off the Peter Pan prancing about, but best avoid the closeups - he never was a looker.
 
The Stones delivered a bunch of classic tunes in a very relaxed manner I thought - no anti climax for me as wasn't expecting much more than that.

As for other bands, try going through some of the LIST of vids from the Beeb.

Am watching Alabam Shakes at the moment. Fantastic!
 
forget about the Stones, old act of the weekend, has to be Kenny Rodgers, how right did they get that for a sunday afternoon
 
Public Image Ltd were brilliant too, also always liked Editors who were a good watch.
 
It's all down to taste, Stones were really never my thing but from what I saw they did a good job but then again I thought Dizzee Rascal did a great job, again not really my thing but can appreciate the energy put into a performance! Stand out so far for me are The Vaccines and Miles Kane.
The disappointing thing is when you look at the whole line up on the different stages then it shows what a poor coverage the BBC have had.
 
thought they were poor- enjoyed Arctic Monkeys more and if you want to see what an over 60 can do go to a Springsteen concert
 
Given their age they did ok, watched it in HD and the volume cranked right up :thumbs: Mind you the last time I seen them Mick kept going off stage every now and then, rumour had it there were Oxy bottles at either end :shrug: Regards to Glasto though I thought Chic put on a great show for the crowd.
 
Just caught a few numbers on iplayer catch up, I wouild say lack of group interaction.

Keef looked ****ed of that Mick was playing (Taylor), Mick Jagger was out front alone and it looked like the rest had a line they wouldn't go beyond.

Best set by far was Seasick Steve, nice to see JPJ still playing with him too
 
I felt the Stones were just going through the motions, still at their age, it can probably be forgiven. Their music didn't stir or entertain as much as I expected, but Keith Richards is always a joy to watch :)

Just finished watching Mumford & Son, who were absolutely awesome.

I thought they were just about the worst act from the many I saw on the BBC Glastonbury coverage this year. They just looked a bit clueless to me and the music wasn't great.
"Sympathy for the Devil" is one of my all time fave tunes, but this version was hardly recognisable! Give up guys. :thumbsdown:
 
I was there and I assure you it was absolutely amazing. Overwhelming and entertaining - never seen so many people at the Pyramid Stage before. TV coverage is always very difficult to convey the atmosphere the live gig is actually giving. All around were having the time of their lives.

Chic were also incredible.

Steve is at least as old if not older than Jagger but appears relevant to music today not an anachronism
 
Don't know how much was shown on TV but I was ready to leave after about an hour. It was just because I was so shattered that I stayed and I'd have to say I'm pleased I did. I'm no stones fan but their set certainly picked up in the 2nd half. All in all I'm pleased I saw them but I probably wouldn't pay to see them again.
