The virus. PPE. Part 1

We have had some notices on the notice boards at work since last week as well as emails and also posted up on our internal website. Basically cancelling any work trips to affected countries especially if close to areas with high infection. There may have been something about self isolation as well, but to be honest, I didn't read to much of the notices. We get similar notices about terrorist activity too.

This is the notice put out at work.

That is fairly comprehensive so good on Ford for that effort.

Hmmmm I was reading a article in the Washington post this morning where the reporter categorically stated that this is a lab made disease that has escaped from the Wuhan disease labs .. to cut it short he implied that they were infecting lab animals with various diseases then instead of cremating them ,crooked lab assistants were selling them on to the wildlife markets to make a few bob on the side ..
If ?true and it sounds plausible then it would explain a lot !

I can't imagine any Washington Post reporter giving credence to this nonsense. Citation needed.

I’m up the other top end luckily so far ..

Just heard on the grapevine though ,they have put Rhyl under quarantine

Not because of the virus ,but because it’s a s***hole

I was brought up near Chester and I recall going to Talacre for holidays and visited nearby Rhyl several times. I recall a large clock on top of a brick column on the promenade . I was about 5 Years old. Also, in my teens I went to the Royal Lido at Prestatyn to see the big name groups..original Platters..Ivy League and I‘ve always wondered how a venue in Prestatyn managed to attract top groups Including the Rolling Stones in. ‘63 And Status Quo and The Beatles..paid £30 I read. ..lol.It’s now called the Nova Centre...,maybe you know it. I had a spell working at De Havilland at Broughton too.

Apparently you can prevent infection by rubbing your anus with oil of violets. It must be true because they mentioned it on Radio 4 tonight.

;)

I went to a doctor's surgery last Weds morning for an aortic scan, not my usual surgery. Turns out the night before someone strolled in feeling unwell and they have just been confirmed as coronavirus positive, the surgery has had a deep clean since and those in the surgery at the same time contacted. Thing is I don't know when the deep clean took place or if I touched any surfaces that this ill person touched before they were cleaned.
So, I could be TP first virus positive contributer, won't that be ironic.

Oh that's it, the whole forum is going to have to self isolate now. We're all banned until further notice.

Hopefully it's all a false alarm in your case.

As long as you follow Toni’s @ancient_mariner advice “you can prevent infection by rubbing your anus with oil of violets” before reading the forum I think you’ll be OK.

You certaintly would not recognise it now the whole seafront has been re.generated . But like every town the shopping centre has deterated the old funfair is now a out of town shopping centre , I owned a guest house there back in the 80/90’s .

Is there any website where one can track rough locations of confirmed cases in UK?

The number of new cases each day is beginning to get difficult to track through news articles.

All my Nikons have had it.
TBH I’ve had surprisingly good results using the Nikon in camera raw editor. It’s absolutely no biggie, just nice for the odd time you want to upload a photo whilst out in the field, but with a bit more flexibility than shooting jpeg.
Yes, but most of these fed agencies are suffering cutbacks and cronies placed at the head and being cowed by attacks from the president (which they are not used to) so are probably functioning less well than usual :(

They are communists like the Nazis were socialists :(..It is faintly amusing that GOP attack dogs are trying to link Bernie Sanders to Russia which is now a mafia state if anything, and the US seems to be headed in the same direction.
(Not that I think Sanders really knows what he is, persisting in calling himself ‘democratic socialist’ rather than social democrat, which he probably is.)

there was an article a while ago near the start of the outbreak that was saying that the US was ill equipped for this type pf out break as trump had fired all the people uncharge of there nation wide agency that deal with these type of issue out of I'm guessing retribution for something someone had done or had gone against him in one of the recent scandals.

this meant that it was now the charge off multiple agencies and that communications between themes terrible as there always trying to better each other.

I think as much as everyone is slagging china they have and will deal with this better than most countries, due to there strict policies and people actualy listening to the government.
theres a youtube video form a Russian guy thats been traveling around china and to the wuhan area.

they are out twice daily disinfecting everything from roads/pavements to shop fronts and car.

they no longer use money very often its all payed via phone so no money to spread disease(this was the case before in Shanghai over the past few years)

even things like lifts they were using systems that were very simple where there were toothpicks stuck into sponges, that you pulled out to push the Button then dropped them into a tub of disinfectant so there was little to no contact with surfaces.

the shops have plenty of food and there doesn't seem to be any panic buying.(look at the uk and Austria news on empty shelfs from panic buy already)

the fact that they have managed to contain its mainly to one large city and Provence is in itself impressive.
I expect here we will have nothing of a similar situation and it will spread at a far higher rate.
god the snow flakes here were campaigning that it was against human rights to forcefully quarantine people...
I know the one case in Scotland the guy came back from Italy and went to work even though it was on the news and he wasn't feeling well......

I have just sprayed myself with E85 petrol, do you reckon that will work? :)

I have just learnt that the person didn't go to the surgery complaining they had coronavirus but the Dr thought it a good idea to get them checked and it came back positive, so they deep cleaned the surgery (on Sunday, 5 days after the visit by the sick person). Plenty of opportunity for other people to touch possibly infected surfaces. So as a precaution I'm working from home till next Tuesday, I was due to only go in tomorrow anyway. Have advised all my work colleagues that I might have been "unclean" yesterday.
Trouble is I get sneezy and a dry cough when I eat chocolate, it's only a minor irritant (to me) and I'm prepared to suffer it as I like chocolate, so, are my present symptoms early onset coronavirus or my normal allergy symptoms? No flu like symptoms so I think it's over indulgence, again.

You should be fine now. You may go and enjoy your BBQ now in peace of mind :)

Not stumbled across such a website.

https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6

That site is excellent for global info.

Covid cases in Italy have gone viral (Oh dear, what an unfortunate pun). Over 2000 which is up around 500 since yesterday. Italy is now No3 in the Covid 19 world league table.

The big unknown is how many people, and where, are carrying the virus without getting symptoms and what risk do they pose in terms of infecting others. Perhaps only random mass testing can provide an answer.

Maybe we should say such & such has gone measly, it might start to encourage people to vaccinate. BTW we don’t seem to have heard much from the anti-vaxxers lately :).

Went with the wife to the docs yesterday, only for an injection in her left knee, two chairs away from me a woman came and sat down, she was cough cough cough straight into the room without covering her mouth up. Wife played hell with me for not moving away. Guess she was right.

You can be 100% certain that as soon as a vaccine for Covid 19 is found a contingent from the usual lunatic fringe will struggle out of their strait jackets and proclaim that it is dangerous etc.

I once worked with a lady who squirted the contents of a perfume bottle down her throat at regular intervals. Being young and naive I didn't realise the contents were actually gin! :wideyed:

I understand there are now 2 versions of this virus, the regular type we already know about which affects people in the 25- 75 age group, mainly women and a far more virulent/disabling version which only affects men and is considered much more dangerous, please be aware of this and advise all of your male friends/colleagues accordingly.

Good link. It is the only listing I have seen that links, just about all the UK cases, back to a possible source.

The other link you posted is also interesting, I've been looking at it for a few days. It seems very comprehensive but oddly enough the cases in Italy are all shown as being about midway between Florence and Rome, and the only ones in the UK are shown as being around Carlisle. Still think it is a useful site though, assuming all the data it gets is correct.

Getting back to being serious ,I was watching boris give his message from no.10 earlier , one thing that I noticed was BJ reference that they have been aware of this for “SEVERAL MONTHS “ if that is the case then any actions now are way to late to be effective . Or was it a slip of the tongue I.e. weeks not months

Weeks, I think.

There was also the problem that China was not initially being, shall we say, "communicative". Neither was/is Iran. Nth. Korea is behaving in it's usual predictable secret manner and is not admitting to any cases.
Disappointingly, Italy has been caught off guard with very serious consequencies for many countries.

With an outbreak of any new disease there is always a period of "wait and see" what happens. That is a risk that can mean valuable containment time being lost as is the case with Covid 19.

If that's the Johns Hopkins CSSE, only a few countries get city or regional coverage; in the others they lump everything together under a single marker somewhere in the middle.
