I am not convinced of its value for photographers but it does look well engineered if a little weird(?).

I take your pont..........but looking at the website all(?) users are wearing slickers of one sort another therefore unless you are shooting with a waterproof cover on the kit it will be getting wet anyway so use is somewhat limited IMO to perhaps to shorter lenses and lighter weight gear!

As I said, not convinced unless others can show real world usage experience?
