Hi, I am borrowing a friends canon 10-22 for 2 weeks and I was wondering if anyone can give me any hints to ensure I get the best from it.... I am mainly into shooting landscapes and town / city scape!

Thanks for any advice! :)

(btw I have read ken rockwell's guide! :P)

Get something interesting in the foreground - which means it'll be just a few feet away. Speaking of which, be careful about getting your own feet in shot (or, more commonly, your shadow).

Interesting things in the middle distance can be very small. Use leading lines to draw the viewer's atention to them. They can also be used to break up uninteresting foregrounds.

*Don't stack filters - vignetting will probably occur

*Things towards the corners will be distorted - people tend to get 'conehead' so be careful...

*Watch the front element - thinsg seem further way than the actually are when you're looking through the viewfinder

I find it's pretty obvious when an UWA shot doesn't work so go out shooting and then refer back to the KR guide (which is actually pretty good) or post them up here for the ones that don't.

Watch out for round things, they go some very funny shapes the closer to the corners they get!

Cheers folks.

Yeah Alan, I have noticed this, and that landscape of straighter lines don't suffer with the same amount of distortion as round ones do!

Thaaaaaanks! Watch this space!

the most important thing is don't overdo it. Shooting everything at 17mm (or whatever is your lens's widest) will grow old quickly.
