tokina 80-400

borrowed a tokina 80-400 fitted it to my d300 and it will only work if i close it down to f22 if i open it up i get a F EE error code anyone advise

Maybe needs rechipped? I'm not familiar with the nikon error codes, but I'd give cleaning the contacts a go. Does the d300 have an AF motor? Does the 80-400mm have its own?

f22 is what you want it on then select the apature on the cam,
also you can use the apature ring by going into the menu f7 command dials, apature setting in that
gives 2 options
1 sub-command dial
2 apature ring.

close it down to f22 and lock the ring apature ring ,then use the camera settings to re adjust the apature to your desired apature for example f5.6 if you look at the rear of the lens there is a small lever that adjusts the apature of the lens the body then controls this when you adjust the apature via the body giving the desired f stop ,

f22 should be orange or green as said lock it at that and use which other mode you like.

put on the green and away you go, there should be something to lock it on f32.

While we're talking about it, is this lens any good? Ive seen a few go for very reasonable prices recently, but reviews i read online havent been great?
