Yes
I have been sorting out photos form a recent holiday with the family.

I am bored of looking at the same picture; basically i have taken the same shot over and over and over again. Nothing is different, the settings are all the same and nobody has moved except slight head movements. Why do i take so many shots, of the same pose!

I think in future I have to be less snap happy.

Getting a bit bored of sorting through so many of the same thing.

Oh yes and i can’t bring myself to delete half of them either, even if they do look the same as the last! - Just in case! in case of what!!

I think I am sending myself MAD

I do not know how long you have been doing photography but i was the same when I first started, and it being digital its does not cost anything either to have them on your pc.

Now I tend to look at what I am taking and give a little thought as to what i want from the pic.

Still get trigger happy at times but not as often

Been taking photographs for about 4 months.

I think it's a bit too easy to hit the button with digital.

I am going to have to get more ruthless when it comes to deleting photos which are similar to the others.

Lol
You are certainly not alone, and with storage space sooooooooo cheap, why delete? As long as the images are well catalogued and indexed (and backed up OFC) there really isn't any reason to delete them if you dont want to. As for taking lots and lots of the same thing - that novelty should wear off, like the previuos poster mentioned, I try and think WHY am I taking an image - unless I am experimenting that is !

Can you recommend a good (free preferably) tool to catalogue and index? Got a few gbs now, OFC is "of course"? Cheers

I'm the exact same especially of the family and my son... plenty of photo's of him just smiling at me.. I do a lot of creative shots and I'm learning to take less and get more of what I'm aiming for.

It's all good though, and nice to keep a record!

Heh I know exactly what you mean but then as I'm just started with my 550D I'm working on the principle of take as many as possible and then delete the really bad ones. Everything else is being kept for now, will hopefully manage to get better with practice and just take fewer better quality shots :)

Or thats the theory :D

Yeah, everyone has that phase of taking everything. But I tend to go down the route of deleting...sure, storage is cheap, but it just annoys me to have so many pictures! If you have many that are the same that you can hardly tell the difference between then I usually just keep the best two...if they are really that similar then you're not really losing out by getting rid.

hahahaha we have all been here. get a new family hahahaha

You have made the right move. looked at your photos and you can see whats wrong with them. thats the first step. now what is it you dont like, pick just one thing and change it for next time. once thats sorted find the next.

dont get caught up with posing etc. infact why not pretend to take a shot, move your head away but keep camera and finger ready. say something and wait for a 'normal' reaction and then snap the real world :)

Just play around with settings and soon it will all fall into place. dont set boundries, everything is a potential shot.

Nog just be careful when to use the Lightroom free trial it will cost you £150 in about 30 days time when you realise you really cant do without it :D

I used up my trial period and was lost without it :( so took the plunge I love it, but its not cheap :gag:

Same here. At first I used to stack them in Aperture, now I can't even be bothered with that as some are so similar, so a quick comparison for the best and the rest goes. It is still not bad when they are moving as sometimes the focus is just in the wrong point especially when not under manual control.

More snaps = more experience- get snapping and Oh buy a 1 TB external Hard Drive to store them on :D:D:D

Les

maybe your not totally to blame,I guess these high paid models do have some skill to justify their millions,so getting your family to "pose" could be part of the problem, tell most people they are about to have their photo taken, they will go into the standard big happy face pose and stare into the lens,ok for the odd shot but gets a bit boring after the 20th shot,so try a few shots when they are not expecting it,I think that will help loads,or just send all the famiy on a modelling course:D
