Yes
I intend purchasing a netbook, mainly, but not solely, for storing my piccies when I'm out and about for a few days.

Thinking of either Acer 531 or Toshiba NB200.

When I get home if I connect my netbook to my main home computer, using a USB lead, will the netbook pop up as a new drive in my home compy, as it does when you plug a USB "stick" in?

If not what will I need to do to transfer my files over to my home machine?

Thanks in anticipation for any advice.

Pete

Pete - transferring by usb or firewire is a bit of a pain in the (donkey) - to be honest I think most people either use wireless file sharing over the network or just buy a cheap portable USB HD and transfer that way.

Use an eternet cable- if you have a hub/switch at home already for the pc- it most probably has a spare port.

Would be my first choice to use an existing network.

Or the USB HD would also give you a useful backup at the same time if you left the files in place afterwards.

if there are gigs of files, then the cable is the best way. I'm talking about 20gigs + here by the way

but as above...if there are only some photos and bits of work on there
get a USB pen drive.

if you're not sure about this you can get a USB drive that synchronises itself at the push of a button

Thanks everyone for replying, don't know why I didn't think of this one myself, but, I've got two external USB hard drives, probably the easiest option.

Thanks again

Pete

No worries Pete. The HD option is probably the easiest and most reliable.
