Transferring Files from Pc to Mac

What is the easiest was to transfer files from a Pc (Dell Inspiron Laptop) to a Macbook Pro? Mainly images, RAW files, tiffs, pgs etc but I also wouldnt mind transferring my itunes library.
 
I used an external hard drive, and ftp. Desktop to Desktop...
 
If your PC has a firewire connection get a cable that goes between the two and boot your Mac up in Target Disk Mode (press T during start up), it will then act as a Firewire hard drive. Then drag and drop from the PC!
 
Another way to do it is to set up a home network and do it wirelessly via your router or home hub
 
If you have a router at home or a switch in your modem plug them both into that.

Make sure that they are both on the same ip address range
192.168.1.2 & 192.168.1.3 for example then use something like FileZilla (FTP program) to copy the file between the 2 computers....

Ir just get an external drive formatted as Fat32 and copy them onto it then off onto your mac. Windows as a 32GB limit when formatting as fat32 though so you may want to format under windows.

I had the external drive anyway and was using it to backup the contents of my PC... so mostly it was just copying it onto the mac...
 
If you want to retain all of your playcounts, ratings, playlists etc... in iTunes, then I think the only way to do this is to use the "Backup Library" option in itunes to copy the whole lot onto DVD. These can then be imported into iTunes on the Mac. Something to do with slight differences in the config files between windows and OSX versions IIRC.
 
Im fairly sure my external had drive has to be formatted for use with mac or pc. so I wont be able to use it (its a lacie rugged drive), but the firewire option sounds the best. Cheers for the replies guys.

Or you could just copy and tweak a couple of files.

That looked really cool, until this part
One important note: This method successfully transfers all your song ratings and playlists, smart or otherwise. However, it does NOT transfer other metadata, like Last Played and Play Count. This, quite frankly, sucks sideways. (However, using iTunes' built-in backup and restore to 60 gazillion discs, Play Count IS transferred.)

However, this stuff isn't important to some people I guess.

Why iTunes won't let you back up to an external drive is beyond me though.

For the mac to write to the drive yes. But my drive was formated NTFS, and I had no problems with reading from it, just plugged it in.
