So much for transferring warranties, 1 year or 2 year it wont happen, from Nikon on my 5 month old D90 I bought second hand:

Thank you for contacting Nikon regarding your D90,

I am sorry to learn of the problems that you have been experiencing with your Nikon equipment. It does appear that it requires attention at our service centre for examination to determine the cause of the problem you are having.

Unfortunately as the camera is second hand the warranty was non transferable from the original owner and any repairs will have to be paid for.

Oh shoot, I've just bought a Nikon D5000 and vr 18-55 for £325 cause I believed I could use the warrantee. AGGGGGG ;(

Nikon Warranties have always been non-transferable unfortunately, they are quite clear about on their website. :( However you have reminded me of something else, I registered for the extention to 2 years when I bought my D300 a year ago - yesterday I got a letter from 'Homeserve' I think it was offering to cover that 2nd year on behalf on Nikon for £75!! :suspect: Must go and check up on why/how!

This is well known and is mentioned by Nikon.

I've often pointed this out here that Nikon Warranties are not transferable, but you still do see sellers claiming items used items have warranty, or buyers asking "how old - any warranty?"

The warranty card is issued only at the time of original purchase; it is non transferable.

Most Nikon forums (well Nikon Cafe and Nikonians) actually prohibit anyone claiming used Nikon items have any sort of transferable warranty for Classified sales, so there is no doubt about this.

Yup I used to as well before the rule change, but as you say it is well known.

There is a really simple solution to this ;)

Ah but that depends on the level of trust, might not work for an Ebay deal.

No, but a site such as this I would think you are on a safe bet. I have offered my help and I would hope Pete would help me with the camera I have just bought from him.
Thing is Nikon are so reliable that they do not get many back in the first place:thumbs:

I like to think that I would be treated as I would treat others.

You here it so many times on here and other places that its got warranty etc, you start to believe it, i was convinced the first year could and the second year couldnt be transfered, 'chinese whispers' i suppose

I agree with you. I also think it would apply on ebay if you had a good relationship with the buyer/seller. Some of the people I have sold to on ebay have become "flickr friends". Trust isn't completely lost in the world I hope...

Yeah thats a good point, though unfortunately in my case . A the original buyer has lost the original receipt and B he did not fill out the extended warrantee, but I hope I can find a way around this. There should be some proof of purchase on say his credit crd statement or similar. I'm taking it up with him when I get the camera, fingers crossed today! ;)
