Another bank holiday weekend ,blazing hot sun .. I live between the two main roads to the north wales coast 1 mile and half a mile respectively, if I go west today I’ll b3 stuck in a traffic jam for hours if I go east I won’t get home again for hours the only other way is south but same applies I can go out but not get back till later on . On the bright side the patio looks cleaner than it has done for years  :banana:

The main road past our house is very busy both ways today - people heading down to the seaside and Newcastle, a seaside town about 4 miles away, or north past us to Strangford where there's also plenty to do. Thankfully we can walk to the coastal path to avoid the traffic, although crossing the road is scary, but a 2 mile drive gets us to the beach which is not too bad for holdups.
I sympathise Jeff - reminds me of when we lived in Dawlish, and also the Salisbury area.

You'll be pleased to hear that Dawlish is worse now, @lindsay !

Mind you, I think the works to stop reduce the sewage flowing straight into the sea are finished now - been a few weeks since we headed that way. Half term next week, so maybe not then!!!

It has been quite bad up here in Northumberland, when I went to do the shopping on Sat morn the main road through here had between half & 3/4 mile of traffic all going north towards Scotland. Went out with the dog at 5.30pm and the traffic was nose to tail coming back south. Tomorrow it will be twice as bad. I never go anywhere on bank holidays now, too many crowds. I blame the TV all these programmes telling you Northumberland is great just causes more and more traffic jams. The A1 north of Newcastle will be down to 10mph for much of its single carriageway bits, which is about 2/3's of it.

We took our caravan to ladies mile last year , not an experience I would like to repeat . Visited dawlish quite a few times but it was weird after the wild open spaces of north wales ( bar bank holidays ) we both felt trapped in a small area . Yet we visit west bay Dorset and Weymouth frequently and love it . Next trip in a few weeks is bempton cliffs can’t wait

It's a digression for which I'm sorry, but I can understand Dawlish isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I was working at the Met Office in Exeter and renting a little house in Dawlish off one of the forecaster for a while. We really liked it there, the nice little park in the centre and being right on the coast. We would get the single carriage train into Exeter on Saturdays...of course it was winter when we lived there, which probably helped!

We never venture out on BH weekends for the reasons stated above.

In the sun,in our back garden, it reached 42ºC..(107.6ºF) I know the Met Office give out shade temperatures but people are out in the sun a lot. It's forecast to be even hotter tomorrow. I took advantage of this heat to high-pressure hose the patio table and garden bench, then treat with Teak oil with a couple more coats being applied over the next few days.

... renting a little house in Dawlish
Our daughter lives in one of the new houses at the top of the hill. At the moment there's grassland on the other side of their back fence but they don't know how long it will remain that way.

I've always had a soft spot for Dawlish, ever since a friend and I had a profitable gig doing "smile pleases" for 50p a print at several of the local function rooms, in the 1980s.

This is what Cornwall is like in the summer - we just don't go to any of the places tourists come here for. We walk to the supermarket and there is a lesser known beach we can walk to too.
Yesterday we had to drive to Cardiff for a weekend (yes, and I had to wear a suit, tie, socks and shoes all day) but there was a slight hint of pleasure - we left the house in the rain, drove through the mist and from Taunton to Bristol the motorway was stop-start coming down to Cornwall, while we sailed along at 69mph with virtually no traffic going our way. I know the weather was going to improve but the idea of thyme all leaving the sun to go to a fairly cold and damp Cornwall amused us.
Got to hope that our journey back today will be similar with all the traffic heading back...

We just had to pop to Sainsbury’s in town about half a mile if that . Got on main road and twenty minutes later got there .total madness today .i wait for tonight’s updates when they all go home

I have spent the last two days indoors, with the curtains pulled and the windows open, this weather doesn't suit my ticker.
It's advisable for many without any health problems, too. I went in to the kitchen about 2.00pm and thought the oven was on.

Once again my thermometer, which I leave out in the sun just to see what it is out of the shade, registered 42ºC. In the shade it was 34ºC. This morning I put another coat of Teak preservative on the patio table and bench seat but used the large patio brolly to keep myself in the shade. It just took 15 minutes but whilst it's not good for many people it's great for drying preservatives and the like. I'll be bale to get the recommended three coats on because there is no rain in the forecast. Down to 28ºC on Wednesday.

Fuel shortages and high fuel prices? Nah! :)
Just back from 10 days to and from Scotland in the Motorhome. £525 on diesel alone. Worth it though.
