The 785B is a bit borderline for an slr. Better than nothing if carrying something sturdier is a problem, but better to have something a bit sturdier. The ballhead is also at the limit of supporting an slr. The quick release does not stop the camera from being able to come off the tripod, so carrying the tripod with camera attached is hazardous.
 
785B head is not very good, try 718B which has a much better head and higher extended length. normally 40 pound plus delivery I think
 
or you can get a star tripod from Tesco for 9.99, it's still usable anyway:)
