Probably a silly question, but could someone explain why you would use say a ball head over a 2/3 way head ? There seems to be lots of heads available that all look slightly different so not sure which one to choose.
Thanks
Thanks, if I wanted top use a tripod for macro use and for longish exposures of the night sky what head would you recommend?

Are you talking motor or not, what shots do you want, you can photograph all the constellations simply by placing your camera on a decent tripod and that does not mean expensive, thouigh look to £100, and I would use a 3 way head.
Point the camera at the constellation, a standard 50mm lens is fine for film, or say 28mm on DSLR.
400ASA, and up to 10 seconds will show minimal movement (star trails).

See the PLOUGH taken by me with this setup
I have also done a telescope review here

You will get star trails over 10 seconds with a standard lens, so anything else will require a driven mount, again £100 ish, see my telescope review with Patrick here

Look for the
SYNSCAN™ AZ GOTO COMPUTERISED ALT-AZIMUTH MOUNT & STEEL TRIPOD
on the OVL website, about £100 new now on ebay, or £160 if you look round. I have used the site below ONLY as an example, there are many others.

Ans YES you can mount a camera where the scope is.
