Tripod recomendations...

As the title says. Looking for a new tripod. Something thats flexible and easy to travel with. Needs to be steady for long exposures and good build quality. Don't want to buy lots of different tripods, so longevity is also a big fat (+)
 
What is your limit on budget - with tripods you can get cheap, sturdy and light, just not all three at the same time :(

Also an idea of the sort of gear you are using - a light body with a short lens needs a lot less beefy tripod than a FF with a 500 f/4 (though as you mention long exposures, I'm guessing you'll probably be using shorter lenses).

Yeah that's cool...yeah I have a d7000 currently with a 50mm prime. Really want to do more landscape/star trail work etc. so just good to see what people recommend!
 
Red Snapper ones are good value, but in retrospect I wish I spent about 150-200 for a carbon fibre one which is similarly sturdy.
 
+1 for the red snapper... They're reasonably hefty but the bag is very comfortable... I've trekked miles over Dartmoor with mine!!

The only thing I did after a while was upgrade the head

I have the 3 Legged Thing Kirk which I quite like. It's not made anymore but they have a large range of alloy and carbon tripods which cover a nice blend of sizes, features and budgets.

I am certainly considering one of their new 29mm range at some point.

X3. i went for a ball head after a bit which in hindsight i wish i'd got at the beginning. solid build, great value.
 
Another red snapper with the ball head here.

Also have the redsnapper monopod with the same head so my camera or big lens can slot on to both tripod and monopod easily

I've got the Brian, well impressed with how easy it is to pack and transform into mono pod, and do low level shot and tun into a high up flash stand etc.

It's too new to comment on how long it will last.

My kirk is now about 15-18 months old and I have had to email service about an anti rotation failure on 1 leg segment. I know their behind on their email because of the holidays so I am willing to wait for the response but it will be a good test of customer service.

But that aside it's been dragged through bushes, dropped and soaked a few times and it's still in fine fettle other than the logo sticker is wearing a bit.
 
Recently bought a Giottos Vitruvian VGRN8265. Recommended. Incredibly light. Well built and sturdy enough for me. Using it with a Nikon D7000 and Tokina 11-16mm zoom fitted with a 10 stop ND filter.
 
I have the Manfrotto 055CXPRO4. a solid yet light (due to it being carbon fibre) tripod. Paired off with the RC2 322 grip shift head.

It will keep me from buying a Gitzo for the time being.
 
After joining this forum, ive come to the realisation that I have to spend so much money! Man... This is an expensive hobby! :thumbs:

Only buy something if you need it, not because someone told you you need it.
 
Red snapper or 3 three legged thing I have both and they are excellent

Haha ... Well I need a tripod! So I see that more as an investment. Hopefully I'll only need to buy the one ;)
 
I can't recommend 3LT enough, solely based on their customer service and 5 year warranty!

Just received one of their products and their service has been 2nd to none. Will be writing a review as soon as possible ;)

Get on the blower to them and you won't regret it, I tried Giottos and Manfrotto at the same price and there was no comparison.
 
I've got a Slik Pro, tough as old boots. Very similar to a redsnapper but slightly lighter, made from some fancy pants alloy or other, seems to work. The plastic leg alignment inserts are starting to fall apart but god knows how old it is and I've done nothing but abuse it since I had it.

My vote goes to Redsnapper I took delivery of their 283 tripod and RSH-12 ball head.

Seriously good for the money.
