I've had a thought for what to do with my summer.
My parents go on holiday for 2 weeks in august, and ive got the opportunity to go with them (gran canaria).

however i've had a thought of going round the UK with one of my tog friends just going on a big 2 week tour of the UK.

Anyone done this? I'm quite tempted by the idea it'll just be knowing where to go/how to do it which will be hard.

Any ideas would be great

Haven't done it but seriously considered doing a tour of Scotland on my 2 weeks off work. Weather is a bit too unpredictable at this time of year though.

I guess it depends on which type of photography appeals to you most though as you could do a tour of major cities in the UK and get some great street photos and people shots or you could head out into the countryside and get some beautiful landscapes. Either way I'm sure you'd end up with a fantastic series of pics.

Isle of Wight would be good. If you like hiking and camping you could easily do it in 1 week (I walked round it in 4 days, hard work mind). A couple of nights in a B+B to recharge batteries and download images, plus then you've still got a week to look elsewhere for pictures. Depending when in August you might time it right for Cowes week, which is mental!

Having recently got a book of aerial photos of the south of England, Kent, Sussex and their coasts, I'm ashamed to admit that almost right on my doorstep are some fabulous locations that I have ignored for decades (too much overseas travelling). You could start there and work your way along the coast to Cornwall.

If not, then there's the Lake District, North Wales, and Scotland.

A 2 week tour of either England, Scotland or Wales will only scratch the surface of what's available. Why not try narrowing the scope a little bit? Also, what type of shots are you going to be after?

sounds like a plan - having never done anything of the sort and for someone that enjoys travelling i'd say go for it, plenty for the photographers eye for sure.

i like a wide range of things, but have never really managed to get to places with some nice landscape possibilities available, but then again i think street photography would be fun, so the cities idea would be nice too.
