Unable to create new folder

Yesterday I tried to create a new folder (win XP) but theres no right click option for new anything, then I tried opening my pictures and using the folder options for a new folder but that doesn't work eiither, it just makes the "clunk" noise and does nothing, no error message either.
Any ideas how to fix it?

Try doing a scan Wayne, sounds to me like you have picked up a virus or Trojan, thats the usual cause for anomalies like that. Not sure what scanning prog`s you use but if all fail to find anything and you have not got it then try ccleaner.

Questions:

- Can you change the system time (double-click on the clock in the systray, if it appears thats good enough)
- Can you create a folder anywhere, say the root of C:
- Can you create a new text file in the root of C:
- Can you start notepad and save a new file that way
- If all of the above fails, run chkdsk /F c: and reboot

I think its a little early to suggest there is a virus.

Can you create a folder using command prompt?

'mkdir foldername'

Thanks for the replies, I'll try some tomorrow (left laptop in work) I can't create a text file, theres no options at all for new anything, I also tried creating a new folder from the options in a few places but nothing doing.
