I don't think that this image works on a couple of levels.

The cross bar through the middle doesn't achieve anything, doesn't draw your eye, or dissect the frame comfortably. The massive contrast difference is also quite distracting as it's not level on both sides, whereas had it been it would have been less of a distraction, if that makes sense. Also not sure that you have the focus, it's all looking a little soft to me.

Could you have shot it in the opposite direction, towards the sea?

Thanks for the feedback. Think I agree with most of what you're saying, and might revisit sometime, at a different time of day and try in the opposite direction.
